I’m 57, in the USA, and my insurance doesn’t cover ED treatments.

But once I really ready the exceptions page closely it say that they don’t cover treatments for sexual function EXCEPT surgical implantation of penile implant for ED.

And it turned out they covered my surgery. I still had to pay a percentage and the total ended up being between $5000-$6000. Not an insignificant amount of money, but better than I expected.

So it’s definitely worth reading your policy closely. I also think it’s a plus if a high volume surgeon. Their office staff know ALL the insurance policies and which codes will get a yes from which companies.

That’s the ballpark I’m looking at with straight Medicare or a Medicare Advantage plan. About a $15-25 K procedure, initially, then Medicare pays what they deem their portion (preset), I pay 20% of that, so after everything, I’m budgeting $4-6 K.

When does Medicare kick in for you? 9years? 11years? I’ve lost track of the age it stats. 65? 67? Initially I had hoped that shots would get me through until Medicare kicked in for me. But my ED continued to progress United shots no longer worked.

Charlie, In my experience virtually every single Aussie urologist charges a whopping amount above the Medicare schedule fee, as do most surgeons in every other discipline. Yes $10K is typical. So if you found an absolute gem of a uro who is good and only charges the schedule, hang onto him forever.
The only experience I've had like that was for my total knee replacement. My orthopaedic surgeon is great and the surgery basically cost me nothing.
He also did my wife's hip replacement and it was the same deal for that. He's definitely a keeper.
71, married, Sydney Oz. PC & nerve sparing RRP Mar 22, profound ED since. Tried pills, Trimix inj, focal shockwave, VED.
Finally implanted Mar 6 2025 AMS 700 LGX 21cm x 12mm, no RTEs, MS pump, Penoscrotal.
Recovery great so far but have a bend.

I’m American, on SSDI and Medicare. Just making that distinction because there’s guys from other countries here.

My SSDI will convert to SSA at 67.

Medicare stays the same.

I can opt/add on/pay extra for a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C) like Kaiser or Molina or a Medigap Plan (Part G) like AARP or Humana.

Open enrollment period for Medicare, Oct to Dec, I can drop or add plans, essentially change insurers or drop coverage and go straight Medicare. Yes, it’s a little confusing.

I’m in WA.

What states are you guys in and who is your Medicare provider? Straight Medicare, Advantage, Medigap?

Kaiser and Molina my Advantage options here in WA. Lots of Medigap options. Can only be one or other.
