How long have FT Implants lasted -- over 10 years? Anyone?

Not in my case, the revision was much easier than the original implant. Dr Kramer did the revision and I had minimal bruising and pain. I took 1 or 2 pain pills over Thursday and Friday then it was Tylenol only. After the revision on Wednesday I went on a down town shopping trip Friday and about a 16 hr total time trip home Saturday with no problems. From the videos it looks like Dr Kramer is very gentle in doing his work. But remember after all we are human so we are all a little different.

How are you proving Eid is wrong? He spoke in probabilities. Therefore, some will not last 8 years.

Also, who was your surgeon? Eid told me over the phone that the revisions are technically more difficult for a non-experienced surgeon, who may do it in such a way where they cause more discomfort than they need to.

I believe the people are more likely to report an implant failure than an implant success. I mean how many guys, after hitting some threshold (say 5, 8, or 12 years), decide to go on FT and report that they are part of the 5 years plus club? I think this is one of those things where failures are more likely to be vocalized. Since this is mostly a support forum, I could imagine that people with non-failing implants will seek support here.

And again Eid could be wrong. However, I do not think he is, and I don't think he is lying. When I spoke with Kramer over the phone, he basically said the same thing... most implants will make it to the 10 year mark.

I only had it one year. It was a very poor installation by a Dr in Houston TX. No failure on the part of the implant , just a poor job by my doctor

Franktalk was started in 2009, so the ten year mark here will not be until 2019. My implant was in 2008, and it has shown no problems of any kind. However, it's never been used so I'm not a good case for comparison.

I don't know that FT start date of 2009 stops someone who had their implant in 2005, then having it redone from posting.

But true, anyone who had an implant, and was happy with it. it lasted 10 or even 15 years, is not likely to be looking for a website to deal with erection problems or ED. They will be living life enjoying an erection any time they like.

So that is most likely why we don't see many of those. We see mostly problems, and people who are new to implants and other solutions.

We all want to be positive and hope our implants last over 10 years. That is my thinking anyway.
At some point, the implants will be better, last longer, and someday will inflate / deflate via some sort of automated pump. Just hit a button somewhere and there it goes.

Battery charged via the motion of our body. Just like regenerative braking in hybrid cars. a few hours of walking around or other movement and you are good for 10 inflates / deflates
At least that would be my design. Plus backup manual pump or wireless charging options.. haha.

Maybe schedule a 4am morning erection to wake us up!!

Treetop says Eid stated the following on a website: "When the prosthesis malfunctions it is easily replaced. Replacement is much easier and causes much less discomfort." But if you look at Eid's website he actually says something quite different: "Replacement penile implant surgery is slightly more difficult and time consuming compared to the initial surgery and carries with it a greater risk of infection."

Treetop also quotes Eid as saying on a website "Expect a minimum of 8 years enjoyment from a penile prosthesis without malfunction." In my way of thinking if a top rated surgeon tells me to expect that something will last a minimum of 8 years then it will last 8 years (or longer). But mine lasted just half that long.

If you look at just mechanical failure of the device then here is the data for AMS CX

"The mechanical and overall survival rates of the inflatable penile prosthesis at 5, 10, and 15 years were:

5 years = 93.3%,
10 years = 89.1%,
15 years = 71.4%,

These results are similar to data from other previous studies.

Here is another article which discusses implant survival at the five year point. This article compared Coloplast Titan versus AMS CX:

FIGURE 1 (above) 5 year survival curve for Titan versus AMS. Interestingly, most of the Titan failures occurred in the first 6 months(three patients failed during that period) The next failure point for titan was at 3 years where two patients failed. For AMS, It looks like a more smooth failure curve over the five years. Importantly, at five years, there was no statistically significant difference between Titan versus AMS (though the trend showed slight edge to AMS at 91% survival (versus Titan at 87%)
