implant removal

Postby fryboy » Sat May 05, 2018 12:26 am

Hi there. I've been fighting an infected prosthesis since placed on Feb 8. At 6 weeks everything look resolved. Suddenly in week 7, everything went to hell. I ended up with septic shock and placed in hospital. After iv antibiotics, surgeon said I was fine. I argued with him that my pain and swelling was quite pronounced. He discharged me. Two days later while sleeping I thought i pissed myself. To my surprised this is what I saw. I was rushed to hospital and incision drained. I'm about 10 weeks post surgery. Things have calmed down but surgeon suggest that remove implant. I was curious for those that had implants removed, what does your penis feel like? Did you lose sensation? Was it more difficult to have new implant placed again.

TIA

Posts like these dissuade me from an implant... SO MUCH
26 years old. USA. ED problem since teenage years. Doctor prescribed ED meds showing some efficacy but not a guarantee. As much as I’d like the implant I now think I should hold off if I’m seeing some results from pills

Sorry you had to deal with this. I've had my implant replaced and it was no big deal. That said, I never had it removed due to infection. Some doctors claim they can remove it due to infection, flush everything out with 3 types of antibiotics and plunge a new one back in. Seems reasonable to me compared to remove, flush and stuff a rigid in. I see no difference. Hope you can find a work around and the damned insurance is not dictating they try and have a failure on ever cheap ass med in the book before they go to the stuff that has some juice. Cheers. I know you don't feel cheerful but as long as you are in a process to move forward you will meet your goal. I know many here will offer you a hug and a well wish........No Damnit,........it's not an orgy, it's a group hug of kindred spirits sharing their strength and support. Best wishes and hugs to you and little willie.

This is almost exactly what happened to me. When I went for reimplantation Dr. Brock and Dr. Gan insisted on the following;
1. I was given IV antibiotics prior to Surgery
2. All OR personnel were to spend extra time scrubbing
3. All OR personnel had to wear ALL OR garb, including the optional items
4. As soon as I was out, nobody was permitted to enter or leave the OR until after wound dressing
5. I was given IV antibiotics during surgery
6. I was washed down with an antiseptic wash from neck to feet and OR cap on me
7. Even though the AMS has an antiseptic coating, mine was dipped again
8. Several times during surgery, I was suctioned and irrigated with antiseptic wash
9. Extra sutures were used
10. The wound was dressed
11. IV antibiotics were given post-op
12. Oral antibiotics were given on discharge
13. I was told to keep it dressed using Polysporin for 1 week
14. After 3 weeks I could have a bath with Epsom Salt

Those little bacteria bastards didn't stand a chance. I healed problem free (I am type II diabetic so that is usually extended time). I had no problems at any point on the timeline. Started cycling at 3 weeks with no problems.. (I thought I did but after checking with the FT membership I discovered that it was normal - I don't even remember what it was). Guys, you can't be afraid of what MIGHT happen. Did you ever think that if a plane crashes, it might land on your house? How about a meteor the size of Texas hitting your state? How about getting an Anaphylactic reaction to the flu shot and dying on the spot? These things are all REAL possibilities but, we NEVER think of them. DON'T BE AFRAID, be thankful that a permanent solution to a depressing affliction exists and we will be able to have sex for the remainder of our lives. :)

But what would happen is a very tiny meteor struck you right on your penis after an implant? ;)

I have the same questions. I have a stable? infected implant right now. My removal is scheduled for June 11th. Dr. Carrion said he may be able to replace it immediately, but it's unlikely. He won't know till he opens me up and can determine exactly what's wrong. He said he may need to put a self-dissolving cast? inside my dick to preserve the size while I heal. I just have all the luck.
Age 72, wife is 52. 20+1 cm Titan Touch implanted by Dr. Kramer on 18 October 2017. Revision to AMS LGX 21+2 cm on 11 June 2018 by Dr. Carrion at Tampa General. Age-related ED + slight Peyronies bend (left) and slight hourglass in the center.

Thanks for reply guys. Just an update. I have healed up fairly well now. I'm on a concoction of 3 different antibiotics which seems to be helping. My last visit to doctor, he suggested that I will have 65% chance to save prosthesis. He said failure is still possible. Removal and replace in 2 appointment , odds jump to 85%. Presently, I have no pain or swelling. I'm at the 3 month,3 day point. What would you guys do?

TIA
