Cystoscopy blues

Postby DougAnd » Mon Aug 06, 2018 10:09 pm

So far in my life I've managed to avoid cystoscopies except for twice. Last year a nurse came in asked me to pull down my pants and lay down on the bed. She then shoved a syringe down my urethra and numbed the inside. After about 10 min the Doc came in and did the scope. A rather pleasant experience little pain almost no bleeding after.
Today the nurse told me to drop my drawers after she left and sit on the edge of the bed. In comes the Doc and we start talking he grabs the scope grabs my little man and takes aim. Wait, you're not going to numb me? In it goes and I'm squirming in pain. Relax he says oh see I'm in the bladder. So he takes a quick peek, there's where your prostate is pushing, how's you flow? Strong? Great, you'll be ok don't worry about your prostate. And he was gone. I bleed all over my under wear. Peed and turned the toilet pinkish. Changed shorts and bleed on them. Finally put a bandaid over my pee hole to catch the blood.
Would really like to hear from others. My surgery is this Wed and I'm already wounded. Never had a catheter is this what I'm in for again?

I really would wonder about a doctor who would do a cystoscopy without numbing the urethra first. There is no reason for all that pain and bleeding. :x

Had it 3 times. Was not too bad. More uncomfortable them painful. Bled very little after first one. Nurse always instilled numbing gel into urethra.
I watched it on the monitor and Uro was explaining everything to me.

Agreed David... That's just not right... maybe someone should do it to him.

I have had catheters before and with the exception of a few times it got blocked, there really is not much feeling at all. It certainly feels better when it comes out though.

I totally agree, Larry. I've often thought that it might be productive if every physician (and medical staff) experienced every procedure that is not life-threatening in order to know what the patients are going through. This might make for less of them saying, "You're gonna feel a pinch." I hate that!

I had my first cystoscopy upon recovery from prostate removal surgery. I was having a lot of pain upon peeing. Doc says lets "take a look," I did get the urethera entry numbing agent, but my problem was with the urethera, why high up where it connects to the bladder. Numbing agent did nothing to curb the pain. It hurt like a son of a bitch. Nurse put a cold wet paper towel on my forehead, but that did not help at all, or distract me from the pain. I had some meds prescribed, and told to come back in a week.

Was pretty sure that another cystoscopy was coming upon returning in a week, so I showed up at docs office with a couple of oxy pain killers in my system. Yep, got another cystoscopy. The oxy cut the pain in half, and was a big help. I don't think the doc cared at all about my pain level. I never told him about taking oxy. It took time for me to finally heal up. There are times, when oxy is really your friend.

I've never been numbed but they always cleaned the end with alcohol and the +_(*#&*$(^)&^(%&$*^& doctor from hell put an iodine wash including swabbing the inside of the urethra that HURT LIKE HELL for 3 weeks but never any bleeding. always gentle and sometimes a little lube and maybe pull it out to wipe the lube off the lens. I would worry about getting an infection with that kind of brutal assault. Man that is madness. Hope someone treats his dick that way.

Okay now two days later and I am finally bionic!!!!!! It's only been 8 hours but no swelling of the scrotum yet. Still waiting for that fun. And the only pain? Inside the very tip of my penis where I just bled for two days. I had just stopped last night but was still tender. Oh well the price you pay for an implant and very very VERY worth it.
