New member question

Postby Daverx » Tue Dec 20, 2011 12:49 pm

Glad that I found this place. I am 19 months post open RP. I am 69 years old in relatively good health with ED being my only problem. I am scheduled to have implant on Jan 11 2012 and will see the surgeon on Jan 4. My own stretch test gives me about 5 to 5 1/2 inches. Of course i will go with my doctor's thoughts on what brand and type implant, but wanted to ask others with personal experience for their thoughts on brand and type of implant. First time in my life i have been looking forward to surgery. Merry Christmas.

Welcome Daverx,

The best way for me to answer you is to share my own experience in my battle against ED.
I developed ED Post-Prostatectomy in Frebruary 2004 at age 65 and never had any prior problem with ED.
I underwent the Coloplast Titan Penile Implant Procedure in December 2007 and just celebrated the Fourth Anniversary.
I can unequivocally state that the Titan Implant has completely corrected my ED and restored both my sex life and the emotional intimacy with my wife of 49 years.
I attribute the complete success of my Titan Implant Procedure to the skill of my Surgeon, Dr. Hossein Sadeghi of Hackensack University Medical Center in Bergen County, New Jersey, and to the excellent quality control provided by
Coloplast.
Best of luck with your Implant.
Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy Holiday Season and all the best in 2012.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would just like to talk.

Bob

I am a cancer survivor, prostatectomy in 2000 PSA less than .01 since surgery. No problem with leaking after cath came out 2 weeks after surgery. ED only problem. Was 57 when I had surgery. Did pills, pump, and injections. Had AMS 700 put in Aug 2008. Medicare and supp policy paid 100% (AARP). Me and my bride could not be happier with my implant. A little pain the first week after surgery but very tolerable. In the hands of a good surgeon that has done hundreds of these you are going to be fine. AMS is a great company to deal with and there device is guaranteed for life. These folks have confidence there product is not going to fail. Lots of luck to you and your Mrs. and Merry Christmas.

I had an implant done on 11/16/11. The doc decided during surgery to use a AMS 700 CX. He normally puts in a lGX, but felt my tissue was not flexible enough. I had 5 1/2 inches when I did the stretch test and that what the length was after surgery. that is about 3/4 inch short of natural erection. It is easy to pump up and think it will work OK. Have not tried out yet with intercourse until dr visit on the 30th.
Good luck. It is really a pretty painless procedure and will restore intimacy in sex

Thanks for the post Daverx, I just had my implant on December 8th 2011. I am still healing, but glad that I forged ahead. I had the AMS LGX implanted. I have not activated it yet because I am still swollen. Good luck on your decision.

The Titan and the 700 LGX or CX are all good. My personal thoughts:

The Titan is the most durable, it also is the most inflexible. It comes in larger sizes than the others, so it seems to be the choice for larger penises and for peyronies patients.

The 700 LGX (what I have) seems to be the hot number for guys without other issues going on. It is the most flexible and will look the most natural when flaccid. It is also the only one that expands in length as you pump up, and will actually gain size in the first 18 months, up to what your body will tolerate. We're not talking making 10 inches out of 6, but maybe 1/4 inch or slightly more. The standard verbage from the docs is "expect to lose about 1/2 inch"

The 700 CX is similar to the Titan in that it will gain in girth while pumping, but not length like the LGX. I'm told it feels more flexible. Several guys with peyronies or other issues have the CX. My doc told me it is mostly what the doc is familiar with. He has always used AMS, but only because of familiarity.

One comment: Consider the size thing. Even with the LGX, my flaccid length and girth is considerably larger than before surgery. I was a grower, my penis would do the turtle in the shell act most of the time, I'd have to go fishing to find it to pee. No way could I do a hands free pee, it would slip in my pants and I'd have wet pants. NO MORE! I am now a shower. I have a decent bulge in just about any pants, and have some difficulty stowing it comfortably. I can also do the hands free pee if I want. No problem. I'm not sure how I would handle a Titan if that is what I had. I know of one guy who never tucks in his shirt, but he is significantly larger than I am.
