Pilot Study Investigates Mindfulness Therapy for Situational ED
Men with situational erectile dysfunction (ED) may benefit from mindfulness-based group therapy, according to a recent pilot study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
Researchers called the approach "feasible" and recommended future research on efficacy.
Ten men participated in four weekly mindfulness treatment sessions. During therapy, they learned mindfulness skills and underwent psychoeducation and sex therapy. They were also asked to complete practice activities at home.
In exit interviews with five of the men, the authors identified six prevalent themes. For example, the men felt that the sessions provided a safe outlet to discuss their experiences ("group magic") and realized the importance of partners in the treatment of ED.
