Longest running implant (properly wprking)

Postby hard drive » Sun Apr 01, 2012 3:06 am

Here is the story and question...

I got my 1st Titan OTR back in Sept. 2010. I wasnt placed properly and I got very little (frustratinfpg/embarassing) usage for the next year. Then the VA agreed that it needed a revision and did just that. I had about 3 momths of great sex and was finally happy. Then the pump blew out and its been 4 months, but I'm supposed to get a full do over at the end of May.

It seems that several people have had pump failure with the Titan. Now I'm just womdering how long has anyone actualluy had a working Titan OTR? It makes me wonder if Im going to have to keep replacimg. this thing every year or two.

Excuse my typing, I'm semding from my iPhone - I sure wish we could get this board to be Tapatalk enabled.. It's built in to the board software already and it's free..... Hint Hint ...

It's my understanding that the OTR first became available in June 2008. I'd be willing to bet there are OTR units that old still functioning. If they'd all failed I doubt the OTR would still be on the market. That doesn't mean the OTR isn't problematic, with a higher than normal fail rate. I don't know about that one way or the other. I hope not though, since I just had an OTR installed.

I had my Titan (non-OTR) Implant in December, 2007 and have had no problems with it to date.
I don't know if the OTR has a documented higher failure rate but have never heard that.
My Titan is now working perfectly 4+ years and counting.
Hope this is of some help.

Best of Luck,

Bob

Last June my uro implanted me with the Coloplast model pre-OTR. He said he had been having problems with the OTR not inflating. He also said that a prominent colleague in another state had also stopped using the OTR. My uro flatly stated he wants to wait a few more years until "they get the bugs out of it" before he starts putting OTRs in patients again. However, he also mentioned he is not a big fan of AMS's implants to date.

Just my two cents.

Okay, thanks for the input. I welcome any comments that others may have as well.
