Hi bionic brothers - I'm wondering how much research you all have done through the decision making process to receive an implant. This could be online videos, FrankTalk forum research, articles, etc.
Those who are scheduled to receive one or contemplating one can vote too!
I've decided to ask in hours. Best guess!
Thank you!
How Much Research did you do before getting an implant??

300+ hours over 14 months.
I searched some before finding FrankTalk, then spent probably 30-40 hours over a couple of weeks reading through old threads (reaching back a bit more than 2 years prior to my joining as I recall). I spent a lot of time poring through Medical Journal Articles on line (The Internet is an INCREDIBLE asset!)
I spent some time corresponding with AMS and Coloplast (when I could get responses) and interviewed 6 Surgeons before finding one that met my expectations and was within my reach.
I don't leave much to chance. There is a saying "Chance favors those who are prepared."
I voted 21+
Can I vote 14 more times?

I can't even begin to quantify in hours how many videos I watched on YouTube, including circumcision incisions, degloving and tunica excision and grafting, along with other extreme surgical interventions. Many hours of reading as many medical papers and other documentation as I could find.
From June 2019 through October 2019 when I got my surgery, I had spent probably in excess of several hundred (200-300+) hours researching this and had made my mind up before I even found and spoke to my urologist for the first time. I went through one month of BPH treatment (in advance of UroLift implant procedure) and 2-3 months of Cialis for ED prior to implantation but never did any injections, MUSE or other treatments besides oral medications.

I'm with Waynetho and Lost Sheep here, hundreds of hours of research, reading medical studies, watching videos, checking out Franktalk, months of back and forth with multiple doctors. I wanted any solution that was not an implant, but was also scientifically proven. Since pills only worked a bit, and injections didn't work at all, there were no such solutions.
So here I am!

I think that most of us have went thru that process. Some get to the implant decision faster than others.

I don't have an implant yet, but i've spend hundreds of hours. Watching every Kramer, Eid, Perrito, and Clavel video. Pouring through tons of journals. Reading tons of papers, etc.

Considering an Implant. Consulting with Dr. Eid.

Re: How Much Research did you do before getting an implant??
Well I got to say almost zero. After pills and injections stopped working and I found out about implants, made an appointment with an urologist. The first urologist I talked to passed me on to his associate with more experience. A consult with that surgeon didn't offer much info, but he said it was a routine thing for him. It took me a year to get approved by insurance and save up my deductible. I kept trying injections in the meantime, but didn't find any other info on implants. At 5 months after getting my implant the place I was buying my Trimix from steered me to Frank Talk. Wish I had found FT before my surgery.

Re: How Much Research did you do before getting an implant??
All the study I have done and now the AMR recall leads me to believe that Coloplast Titan is the way to go for an implant. I haven't pulled the trigger yet and am currently trying Trimix as a last ditch effort to avoid surgery. I'm on Medicare and that covers implant subject to deductible and co-pay. I have had no problem with Coloplast answering my questions or getting back to me. The only thing I have a question on (Coloplast reps listening in). Where are your "centers of excellence" located? Lots of docs listed on website doc locator but no "centers of excellence" listed. Those of us that have done due diligence in "implantology", what are your reasons for choosing an AMR over Coloplast or vice versa? What questions can you think of that you should have asked the surgeon prior to your surgery?
Implant 1/28/2021. Dr Stephen A Johnson. Done at Baylor, Scott and White in Sherman, Texas. TRT since 2005, serious ED from 2004. Used nearly all PDE5 drugs. Injections failed. Started cycling at 1 week. Cycle most days. AMS 700 CX 23cm, 100ml reservoir.
