Getting coloplast

Hello everyone, I just joined and am having a coloplast installed in about a month.
Have had ED for a few years and am looking forward to getting this done.
So how long should you normally expect to take off work? I work at a job where I walk around a lot and do some bending and lifting although the weight is only about 25 to 30 pounds at the most, and it is not an all day thing.
And what kind of athletic supporter is best?

Hi Richy, I got the AMS 700 LGX on 6/28/12. I also stand, walk and do lots of lifting at work. I am under a weight restriction of a gallon of milk. Doc wants me out a full 4 weeks. I was told no jock, too constrictive, but for driving, I use an UnderArmor jock. Smooth, not the waffle material. Guess where I got it? Yup, Dicks Sporting Goods. Good luck, keep us posted.

Absolutely the most optimistic forecast for the work as you describe would be a week more like two weeks would be more like it, ignoring any doc recomendations probably. I am glad I am retired and didn't have to worry about work. At one week I remember still strongly having that aching feeling in the perineal area after standing only for a few minutes. It can be quite uncomfortable. However, my experience is based on the scrotal approach which they tell me is causes more pain and swelling. So, maybe someone who had the pubic approach can give you some feedback on that, providing of course that your doc choses that method.

I got my LGX 4 weeks ago and I would say two weeks minimum. I made the mistakes of trying to pick up my grandson and got a quite a twinge in my gut that made me nearly drop him. I didn't consider that he is about twenty pounds. So take it easy on how much weight you lift, push, or pull for at least two weeks maybe more.

Richhy, individuals are different as far as recovery. I have a low pain threshold so it took me a good three weeks before I was able to go back to work. Some of the brothers here report being back to work in a week. It's different for everybody but the important thing is to pay attention to what your body is telling you.

"Plan for the worst, hope for the best". I was told 1-2 weeks for return to work if the activity was light. I had a scrotal incision. In my case, which I think was far better than average, I could have done it at 1 week, maybe earlier, from a pain and discomfort point of view. Most docs recommend not more than 10 or so pounds lifting for 4 weeks, though mine did not make that recommendation and left it to my discretion, but taking it easy and increasing everything slowly. I doubt I lifted more than 15 pounds during the first couple of weeks, though I did play 18 holes of golf at day 21 riding in a cart, and another 18 holes carrying my clubs over my shoulder at day 25, all with no problem at all (and with the consent of the Doc's nurse). That too is probably better than average recovery.

My biggest problem post-op was that I was instructed repeatedly to not sit on the pump for at least 7 days, ideally longer, to make sure it didn't move. When the nurse in the surgi-center went over with me quite carefully what that meant, it meant always sitting with my scrotum not touching anything, mostly by sitting forward with just the tail of my buttocks on the seat. I found that inconvenient and uncomfortable for more than short periods. However, I don't know how common that recommendation is. I was also told to keep my penis up against my belly for at least 10 days, which I did, usually with some padding around it for comfort. That produced a slightly noticeable bulge. Depending on your sensitivity, that might be an issue at work.
