What did you tell family/friends you were going into surgery for when you were being implanted?

Postby personfromon » Tue Jun 29, 2021 10:44 pm

Bit of a light hearted thread, but I'm curious because I feel when I finally do pull the trigger to get an implant I'll have to come up with a bit of a story! Especially considering I'm fairly young and the fact that I live in Canada & will most likely go to the states to get it done. I have roommates, coworkers, friends & family who will undoubtedly ask where I've been, and if I just tell them "oh I flew to the states to get surgery" I'll definitely be getting "surgery for what?!"

So, are there any surgeries that could pass for a) not having a physical scar to show them anywhere on your body and b) being out of commission for a few weeks?

Did you have a story you told people or did you spill the beans? :D

Any input on this is appreciated, thanks!

Bladder or kidney stones might fit your requirements. Think about a 2-3 week USA vacation. Maybe a vacation where stones showed up unexpectedly & "delayed" your return.
There is a long list of things to say. I'm sure that others will give you some ideas also.
Oh, USA vacation, met an exchange student from Europe & stayed longer for a good fling. Hey, the list is endless. Nice thing about a lie. You're in control of the story. Dream away.

I think this is where the truth will set you free. However it is ok to tell people that are only associates of yours that "you don't want to know" or "its just a long story" as to why you were gone, no need to broadcast it on the local morning radio show. That being said, I would own it to those that are very close to you, tell them how you want all of your life back. Perhaps even tell them how much you have suffered because of this condition. I am curious as to how you do handle it, in part because everyone always likes an update; in part because I'm a younger guy that just started injections. So this could be my reality soon, anyway that's my 2 cents.

I just came clean as I was traveling for this and I do have others in my house. With the recovery and being left inflated after surgery and needing to be mostly naked for a period of time it is almost impossible to keep this from others in the house hold. And once you tell one person it will soon get out to others. The truth is easier to remember than a story and what you told others. I told my family members and some close friends. I just look at it as something was broken and I had it fixed. So anyone who was old enough and close enough I just told the truth to. Ones who were not I just did not tell unless they asked. This was a big turn around for me as I was one who just kept this a secret for years and could not even talk to my doctor about. Co workers are another thing though. And I would not discuss this in a work place.

I told a couple family members. Work folks don’t need to know. ED shouldn’t be stigmatized yet I understand why we don’t shout this off roofs. Maybe if men just told those men in our lives of our situation we may even unbeknownst help them.

My family knew of my heart issues, having had two heart attacks, so I told them it was a procedure for circulation. Indirect lie lol, erections need circulation, I needed an erection...

Yes, keeping ED in the "closet" does a disservice to every man who suffers (and every man's partner, who also suffer). Of course, there is another side to that question as well. Sexual functionality is a factor in a man's image. Personally and even professionally. In some circles, revelation of this sort of condition would diminish a man's reputation.

Alas, societies abound in unfair stereotypes and prejudices. Some have some degree of validity and some don't have any validity at all.
