I’m 35 and have been suffering ED since becoming sexually active. I had some trauma to my penis from a motorcycle accident at 19, but I healed and my diagnosis was psychological origin, though Cialis definitely helped. Effectiveness for me has diminished in recent years, and now all it does is give me a headache.
Regardless of cause, the end result is the same: my dick doesn’t work, and with my last 5 or more hookups I had no serviceable erection, or one that lasted only minutes, or only with my partner on top. You’re all familiar with the embarrassment, and that fear of whether I’ll be able to get it up and keep it up has colored every sexual encounter I’ve had my entire life.
I looked into an implant 5 years ago, but was hesitant to go down an irreversible surgical path, especially because I had read accounts of losing size. So in addition to the pharmaceuticals I tried everything else: getting in shape to deal with body insecurity, lots of cardio to help with blood flow, hypnosis, testosterone replacement therapy to go from low-average to high-average.
Well, none of it worked, and in December I finally had that moment of clarity: despite all efforts, my ED has only gotten worse and will not improve with age. I’m faced with 3 possible paths forward:
1. No implant, dick doesn’t work
2. Implant fails, dick doesn’t work
3. Implant succeeds, dick works
The only path with a positive outcome is the implant, so my decision was easy. I did a video consult with Dr. Clavell in December, and a month later I’m in Houston for surgery tomorrow. I’ll stay here for a few days to rest and ice before flying home on Saturday.
I know the recovery can be long and uncomfortable. I know that if I’m lucky enough to live an average lifespan I’ll have this surgery another half-dozen times or more. But I have no doubt that I’m making the right choice, and I hope to be in the 95% of patients who are satisfied with their implant. I feel confident in my decision, eager to put my dating anxieties behind me, and nervous about complications — all simultaneously, somehow.
I greatly appreciate the information shared on FT by members of all ages, and I found the journals from members in my age range to be particularly helpful at giving me the reassurance to finally pursue an implant at a younger age than most. I don’t have the writing stamina to match Merrix’s wealth of journaling, but I will try to keep a log of the meaningful milestones for the next few months as another resource for those young(ish) men doing research like I was.

Good luck, man.
I will be following this thread with an eagle eye. We sound pretty similar.
Seems you’re in good hands.
Please do keep us updated.
And I’m quite hopeful you will live a long life and need far less replacements than half a dozen. I have a feeling reliability and durability of future models will improve. Here’s hoping.
All the best!
37, mild to moderate ED since age 21, 3 Dopplers - 1 result VL & 3 later results 'no physical problem', dependent on cialis (efficacy now waning), overcame Lymophoma at age 26, ED causing immense/profound psychological distress. Considering implant.
Re: Another mid-30’s implant journal
Good luck tomorrow.
You didn't mention any Peyronies or other physical problems that would complicate your surgery.
I don't believe you'll lose any size.
I also predict that you won't need more than 2 revisions in your life.
Mine just turned 3 on the 22d and it gets a lot of work.
Did doc say which implant he'll use?
I think, but really don't know, that the Titan or AMS CX will prove a bit more durable especially it it comes pre-connected obviously the tubing to the reservoir isn't pre-connected.

Re: Another mid-30’s implant journal
Thanks for the good wishes, all. Defiant, yes, your experiences resonated strongly with me.
Tomas1, correct, no physical problems or pre-existing conditions, so I’m optimistic about the outcome. I came in to the consult with Dr. Clavell preferring the Titan, but asked for his recommendation. He said it came down to how I felt about the flaccid state of the implant — do I mind dog ears? Do I want it to be as discrete as possible when clothed? I don’t care about either, so he recommended the Titan. I believe durability and girth advantages were mentioned, but maybe I’m just inserting the anecdotes from all the other pro/con discussions on hardware.
Honestly, if Dr Clavell made a game time decision tomorrow and I woke up with an AMX I’d be just as happy, plenty of members on the forum on either piece of hardware that testify to them being positively life changing when installed by the right doctor.

No, were I in a relationship and had an understanding partner I probably would have given that a try. But after trying VED + restriction bands, I considered the lack of spontaneity (not so much the time to take effect after injection, but the logistics of keeping one at hand when out and about) to be a big downside to injections.
Though the ultimate deal breaker for me is that injections are likely to eventually lose their effectiveness like other pharmaceutical solutions, and the potential for build-up of scar tissue from that usage would make the eventual implant surgery more difficult.
My ED is only headed in one direction, so I prefer to skip the temporary solution and its side effects in order to proceed to the inevitable, superior option.

Luis, by the way, much respect for the “party trick” you share in your dating thread, you are an absolute madman and I mean that as a high compliment. Might have to give that a try when I’m healed and back in the game. But it also sounds kind of horrifying, so maybe not.

SearchigUSA, please provide the URL or a link to where we can read about this "party trick". Or, at least the full thread name so we can do a search for it.

The thread is a good read for anyone considering injections. Luis has a lot of success and uses the injections to their fullest, but still gets let down somewhat regularly by the inconsistent effects. Doesn’t seem fair - anyone brave enough to put a needle in their dick deserves a gold star and solid erection every time.
