Penis up or down?

Postby thegatter » Thu Sep 13, 2012 8:01 am

I had my surgery on Tuesday, the 11th......the doc came in the next morning and untaped the penis, which had been pointing straight up....now, it's down....and the thought of bending it up makes me cringe! The pain is most definitely there....
Will it hurt to have my penis facing down??? I sure hope not!!

Also, I had a natural curve to the left when I had an erection in the old days...I see that the curve is still there. (doc has it pumped one time...says it heals better that way)....Should I be concerned with the curve??

Pain in the testicles is more than I had expected...even hoped for.........I am taking Vicadin...but, I can't wait for the pain to start to go away.....

When??????????????

Up or down, usually it is kept up and others said the doc recomended this, but my doc didn't say anything about it. So I concluded that he didn't have a strong opinion. I would say keep it down if bending and keeping it up is painfull. About those testies, ice them down and stay off you feet and keep on taking the pain pills on recomended schedule. And mostly a little time will help the most. It shouldn't be too uncomfortable next week.

My doctor (here in Boston) wanted it kept up for a week; I second the suggestion for lots of ice to keep the swelling down. That helped me manage the pain, which --- like yours--- was considerable the first days out. I had surgery on August 27 and am nearly pain free. There are still moments when I'm uncomfortable --- mostly in different parts of the shaft. I highly recommend the advice about taking it easy in the first few weeks as a way of speeding up recovery. Take good care.

I was instructed to keep it strapped up and straight for 10 days, to make sure it healed straight. For me hot baths, not ice, starting on day 3 were a great pain reliever and helped keep swelling down. My sutures were done in a water tight manner to allow for warm baths, however.

I too had curvature (peyronies) before surgery. The Dr did work during the implant surgery to correct some of it ("modelling"), though I still had some after surgery. I took care to keep it strapped straight or slightly bent against the natural curve for 10 days. And when I started keeping it down, I wore somewhat tight boxer briefs quite a bit, and tucked it into my briefs on the side opposite the natural curve. After starting regular inflation at 6 weeks post op the curvature decreased, and is almost entirely gone, now almost 7 months later. What's left is of no consequence to anything.

Glad to hear from you. I was getting concerned about you when you did not post about your post surgery status- I guess the drugs must have worked and kept you flat on your back resting for the first 24 hours- i plan on doing nothing for 7 days but take my vicoden, sleep, read a book and watch movies. Everyone says that is the key to a rapid recovery. Keep us posted on your condition when you have the energy. Jim

What a great forum, what a great bunch of guys here. Today is day five post surgery.........I went to see the doc two days ago, and he confirmed what you all said....best to have penis up, but not the end of the world to have it down....keeping it up aids in reducing swelling.......however, for me, the pain was too great to keep it up, so it's down...... I have been resting as much as possible, but also trying to walk as much as I can tolerate......my testicles are what's causing pain...the swelling has made them rub up against my legs......and that is painful. I have taken to rubbing vaseline all over the area, and just discovered that if I put a rolled up sock on each side of the testicles, it helps too.......
Doc told me not to worry about the curve.....alot of men's penis curve right/left.......of course, I never knew that!
OK.......Overall, less than a week from surgery, I feel pretty damn good...........the penis, as I said in an earlier post, is pumped one time........and I am very impressed with the firmness that is displayed with just that one pump....I have a feeling that when I am completely healed, I am going to have alot of fun with my new "toy."

For you guys ahead of me, what's next? When does the swelling go away? When will my testicles be back to normal?

Oh, just last night I had the courage to try to find the pump in my testicles. Doc had told me that I was to try to pull it down as often as I could so that it would rest in the lower part of the sack. He told me that I shouldn't even try until two weeks post op however, ...Well, I did try last night, but really couldn't even find it........ should I be concerned??

Thank for all the support............

Great to hear from you! Sounds like you are doing great. I hope the swelling starts to go down soon. I get more nervous everyday as surgery gets one day closer. Take care and continue to post on your recovery. Jim

Jim, I know it's easy to say........but truly, don't be nervous. This is the best decision in your life........no matter what, you will enjoy the new you for a very long time........the pain that comes with it in the beginning is MINOR compared to the pleasure that you will have for the rest of your life.

Think of it this way......... a woman gets pregnant, goes through nine months of pain and suffering, culminating in the worst, most painful experience that anyone can imagine....pushing a baby out through her vagina. And yet, the moment the baby is born, pain is forgotten and healing begins. And most women go back for seconds, thirds and even fourths.

What I did, and you will do, is NOTHING compared to that......... Enjoy your life........and sex is a major part of that!!

God Bless......you will do fine. I am only five days post surgery and can already envision the great days ahead. The pain that I have experienced is NOTHING compared to that.......for me, you , and all men facing this wonderful surgery. It's a gift.

I have some curvature also. I was 90 degrees with hinging. Now with a couple pumps I am about 45 degrees. I picked up extra brusing on penis today. Not sure if that was from walking at airport to much. Just lying around all day now. I taped it up in opposite direction of bend a little. Percocets are wonderful under the circumstances.
