Damaged needle

Postby mike61 » Sun Nov 18, 2012 1:52 am

Had a very strange experience last night. Tried twice to push the needle in and only succeed in pinching the skin and showing some blood spots. Looking closely at the needle I had actually put a slight bend in the needle from trying to push it in :o . Went and got another syringe (31g) loaded up and the injection went perfect.

Looking under a magnifying glass the tip of the faulty needle was flattened!. Looking back I had a problem pushing the needle into the vial of Trimix, it really went in hard, I placed the needle right in the middle of the rubber top at 90 degrees. Looking closer (this was a new batch of Trimix) at the vial I can see nothing wrong with it, it just felt as if the rubber top is very thick / hard!

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Hi Mike,

I've never heard of problems with the sharpness of the needle. I'm pretty new to injecting (only 4 months), but all I've read on this site this has not come up. If I were you, I would definately e-mail the syringe's manufacturer and let them know. There appears to be a flaw in their quality control process. Good luck.

I have experienced problems with inserting a needle through the rubber cap on the vial. I have also bent needles trying to pierce the wall of the CC. I believe I was probably not at a 90 degree angle. I now only use 30 gauge needles and rarely have a problem.

Thats why my uro prefers 28G over 30G. Told me that the 28 was more durable and less change of bending.

A 31g needle is pretty thin. If my doc had his way, he would have me injecting with a 28g. He even went so far as to warn that anything smaller than 28g might actually snap and break off. Luckily, my state allows syringe and needle sales without a prescription, so I use 30g. Same needle, both to draw from the vial and to inject. The bent needle could have been an instance of just one bad needle in the lot, but staying with the major brands (BD, Terumo) might be a way to minimize problem. I would not use the Walmart specials IMHO or any of the other off brands where quality control may not be the best. Another way to go might be to separately buy 27g - 31g needles with a luer lock hub, and use one needle to draw up the dose, and then switch to a new 31g needle for the injection.

Hope this never happens again. Ouch.

Back when I was injecting and before the government and the pharmacies went crazy about the wrong people getting needles, that is how my Edex kits used to come. Apair of vials and on 28g and one 30g needle for a disposable syringe. Last units I was getting were using integrated syringe and vial setup with 28g needles.

Now have an implant because the injections quit working.

Thanks guys for the feedback and advice. I have gone back to using the 30g (same make as the 31g BD) and must say there is not a noticeable difference when injecting between the different sizes. The whole fear of actually snapping off a needle is too much to contemplate! Has this actual happened to anyone? and how do they get the broken bit out?

I always bend my 31G needles after injectiong to prevent reuse. I have never had one break even after this abuse. i have had a few dull needles and have pitched a few loaded ones after i thought they might had been damaged during the piercing of the vial cap. 31G 5/16 pushed in as far as you can.

I have been injecting for over 15 years. My experience with bending needles was belived to be a soft penis. I now make sure my penis is at least semi-hard. I have no problem with a fully hard penis.

If you have a problem with hardening your dick, I suggest getting a pump. Pump yourself to a full erection. No bent needles and the needle goes in very easily. Feels great!!
