Some thirty hours ago I entered Dell Medical Center here in Austin to begin my new journey of becoming bionic. Dr. O did my surgery. He specializes in urological reconstruction and implantation. He is an amazing specialist. He explained things well and had a tremendous bedside manner of composure and competence. His staff as well as the surgical team were proficient and professional. I was in great hands.
Surgery lasted about an hour, two hours in recovery, then to a regular room for the night. My catheter was removed at lunchtime today. I had no problem urinating on my own…was discharged and now I sit at home in my living room.
I had one bout of extreme runaway pain immediately postoperatively that was handled quickly by the recovery team with IV dilaudid and OxyContin. They slowly brought the pain down from a 10 to a 4. I have been steadily improving on that…
One small bruise on my left penile shaft. Scrotum has a small incision covered by durabond. Absolutely no swelling to speak of. I can feel my components and grasp my inflation bulb /deflation block with no problem. Dr. O deflated my cylinders and I am able to view my new flaccid; dog ears and krinkles in all their glory. I was rock hard prior to this deflation and could make out the oval shape a Coloplast Titan will give you without corpus spongiosm engorgement. I am currently keeping my deflated state until follow up in two weeks.
I was able to enter the whole situation in a fearless walk. Knowledge is power. I received much information from his office. But it did not hold a candle to the bright light of what I have learned here on FT.
I’m now on ibuprofen and ice for a few days. Taking it easy.I’ll keep posting info. Thank you all.
First 30 hours.

Re: First 30 hours.
Good luck and quick recovery.
I live 84 mi NNW of Austin. I had a LGX installed by Bryan Kansas on 12/31/19.
Sounds like you’re going ok. I bruised bad but never had anything at all I’d call pain.
If you run into a rough patch pm me and I will talk on the phone. This whole deal is 100% survivable and once the swelling goes down, and especially once you start using it, you’ll wonder why you waited.

Age 68. Physically fit educated red neck in Texas. Very married. 23 cm (18+5) of LGX installed by Dr. Bryan Kansas 12/31/2019. I fought the ED and my wife & I won. I’m either full of shit or sound advice. You decide which.
Re: First 30 hours.
You might have had a nerve block, keeping the pain to minimal for up to 3 days.
Usually, the first 2-3 weeks are horrible for many guys, but some sail through with minimal pain.
Best of luck healing!

Thanks Txagq8 and Old Guy for your support. There was no talk of a nerve block…so I’m not sure about that. I do know that these next few day will indeed be the worst to ride out. All the IV pain meds and sedation will be flushing out. I’m pretty groggy right now at the 48 hour mark. For those reading this and thinking of implantation, my pain is tolerable (3or4 on the 1-10 scale)….swelling and bruising minimal. I hope this keeps up. I am able to care for myself and walk around okay. It is weird having an implant now. The sensation of it inside my body. The physical stuff needs to heal, no doubt, but the psychological victory is PRICELESS. Every time I wake up from sleep I rejoice that I’ve taken this step and great things are just around the corner. That alone is worth it.

You'll be ok. Part of success is your attitude. You seem well adjusted to the realities of surgery. You'll do fine. Historically most people say that day 3 is the worst. Likely because the surgery sedation wears off. Be ready with at least ibuprofen. Days 3 & 4 were my worst but it was bearable with my pain meds & the ibuprofen.
Good luck.

Re: First 30 hours.
Haven't seen it said, but lots of ICE. And also sometimes between the ice use a heating pad, a hot water bottle. Kind of like the commercial about icyhot. Ice to ease the pain hot to heal the pain. Lol

Re: My implant journal.
I want to pay it back to FT. After using this forum to help me with my decisions I want to give those who are researching implantation a heads up of my personal experience. Today is day 5 post surgery.
Day 1. Spent the previous night in the hospital for observation. Pain was 6 or 7 but was managed by OxyContin. Dr examined me and deflated my implant. I was able to urinate. I was released from the hospital and returned home. Started this thread. Stayed horizontal mostly and applied ice packs. Swelling was minimal and I had some bruising. I had eaten nearly an entire pineapple the night before surgery. Pineapple contains bromelain which is known to help with bruising and swelling. My wife was advised to do as such by her plastic surgeon before her breast reconstruction. I cannot speak to its efficacy but it was worth a try. I continue to use a bromelain / arnica supplement.
Day 2- I slept well. Still groggy from anesthesia. Pain at about a 4. Just taking Tylenol and antibiotics. Swelling and bruising was minimal. Ached in scrotum and lower right quadrant of my abdomen where the reservoir was placed. Watched football all day. Stayed horizontal and applied ice packs.
Day 3 - I slept well. I took mirilax and finally moved my bowels. The Dr had prescribed senna for constipation but I need a boost. That relieved some bloated soreness in my gut. I was experiencing some back pain from inactivity and laying flat. Took some laps around the house walking. Pain was at a two. Took a hot shower.
Day 4 - I slept well. I was able to side sleep with no problem with a pillow between my legs. No more swelling. Slight ache still, pain at about a one. Took it easy but definitely increased my time being up and around. I used ice packs and a heating pad…took ibuprofen and antibiotics as scheduled. I was definitely feeling more normal. Before I went to bed I was trying to feel my pump and release block. I can not really feel the release button very well due to scrotal skin but I was not so tender I couldn’t dig around in there. Fearing I couldn’t deflate I didn’t want to squeeze my pump. But curiosity got the best of me and I mashed it like priming your lawn mower fuel line. I heard the same gurgle as saline refilled the bulb. And to my amazement my cylinders began to fill. I had a pretty good chubby. But my brain was like omg!!! I have an erection! Squeezed the deflation block and my dick simultaneously and went back to flaccid. I can’t tell you how much this means to me. But those who are there can relate. Oh my! Please don’t tell my surgeon.
Day 5- I slept well. No swelling. No pain to speak of. My penoscrotal stitches look good and the durabond is beginning to flake off. I have a little ache but not bad. It’s probably self induced. A little bruised. I feel completely normal. Pumped a few pumps and deflated again. I just wanted to replicate my previous nights investigation. I will return to ultra healing mode. No more fiddling with my junk. I want to continue down this path. My gratitude is off the charts. I am having trouble believing this. I haven’t even made it a week yet. I consider myself extremely fortunate.
I will continue updates as time passes. I see the doctor in eleven more days for my first post op evaluation. I wonder how much I will confess to him.
Thank you brothers!
