Prostactectomy AFTER Implant

Six years ago in 2017, I had an implant. It worked great. Six months ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, so I had my Prostate taken out.

Complication:
The prostate was close to the Reservoir, and the reservoir was adhered fascia. So, the reservoir was removed.

Anyone have this happen?

my surgeon believes replacing the reservoir and putting me back in action will be easy. But I have questions.

At six years old will my AMS LGX be reaching the end of his service life? That is, should I consider a full replacement?

if offered a CX or a Titan (if a replacement is offered) I wonder about that choice.

my LGX has proved very satisfactory to me and to my partner.

I had my implant after an RP and the reservoir placement was not an issue given the Da Vinci robot's multiple (? 6) entry points into the abdomen. Your surgeon may also choose to put the reservoir on the opposite side from the original.
Re: implant life cycle and type: that's a great 2-way discussion with your surgeon. One scenario/approach: you've got 5 - 10 years remaining implant life cycle; what's the 'best guess' on your personal life cycle. Otherwise, I often read postings on FT about up-sizing on revisions due to space dilation. And similarly, there are frequent posts about the implant brand characteristics when inflated and not.
My bottom-line at 70 years old if in need of a reservoir only: I'd go for the full revision and seek a larger AMS product.

Sorry to hear this news, its a fear that we all have. I’m sure you will make the right choice, you’re a smart guy, keep us in the loop if you choose.
I think I would consider a Titan if this happens to me,Ive grown to embrace my shower. The Lgx shrinks over 1.5” for me with a dog ear on left. Maybe except dog ears and enjoy the shower.

It is good to hear that everything went well with the removal of the prostate, especially the infection risk. It seems that your surgeon is a competent one and made the right decisions during the surgery.
In my opinion, keeping your current implant will be a good idea, since it is still working. No one knows how long it will still go, and if you get a new one, there is still the possibility of failure at anytime, in addition to the other complications of surgeries.
Time is also an important factor: with the removal of reservoir, you might now be totally deflated, or maybe a little saline left. The removal of prostate shortens the length and getting back to inflating very soon will help you keep your current size. I think the bright side of having RP after implant is that you can still keep you size and shortening doesn't occur. This is just my assumption, not sure if it medically correct.
Wish you a quick recovery. Don't forget about doing kegel exercises as much as you can everyday. I could stop incontinence in about a month after my RP with kegel.

I’ve been curious about what happens when you already have an implant and then have RP. My concern is they remove the portion of the urethra which in most people causes them to loose length. I’m sure you’ll have to be completely healed before ever considering getting a new resivour and then for sure before you pump it up as this will put a lot of pull on the now shortened urethra. I would ask my implant Dr his opinion of replacement of the whole implant. I personally would probably do a complete revision. But it’s totally up to you and your surgeon. I have a Titan and at the time was very adamant about using it over an AMS. Now after living with it I don’t think it would really matter which one I received next. Either will get harder than you will ever need. The softer AMS sounds nice as the Titan took 6-8 months to get soft enough to be comfortable.

I am so sorry to hear about your cancer. Most of us are the other way around. Cancer first, implant afterward. I personally would have everything replaced if possible. If you are happy with what you have I would do the same. I wish you the very best going forward.

I questioned whether the removed portion of the urethra would make things shorter thus more difficult. I heard from multiple medical sources that this is not a problem, as the bladder will move down, leaving the shortened urethra still long enough to reach from bladder to metatus, just as before the Prostactectomy.

That is, the bladder moves down to where the prostate used to be. The kidneys & all tend to follow suit. Apparently, our innards are flexible enough.
