If I had a do-over ......

Postby Journeyman » Sun Jul 28, 2024 3:08 pm

.... I think I'd go with the AMS CX. Why ? Because the reasons why I picked the Titan , after living with it for 15 months , were not as important as I perceived. So what were my reasons for picking the Coloplast Titan over the AMS ?
1) The titan was harder
2) The titan was bigger
3) Having Peyronie's, the Titan was supposed to help straighten it out more because of reason #1
4) Titan just sounded cool . The dumbest criteria to use when picking out an implant
What I've learned:
1) The wife doesn't like it pumped to the max . It's TOO hard ! So I only pump to, approximately, 80%
2) The Titan is barely bigger . Probably not even enough to notice . If you're that concerned about the lack of girth, you could get filler
3) After suffering from ED for so long ... I was obsessed with being hard. I didn't care about the flaccid state ! I was flaccid for 10 years prior to getting implanted . Now I wish the flaccid state was better . I don't like the dog ears , even though it is true that they soften and are manageable with a few pumps, BUT the titan does kinda feel like a bent straw in the wrapper ( I forget who made that analogy first but it stuck with me when I read it )
4) This might be unique to my situation ...but my right cylinder kinda buckles. I don't know why . Is it bumpy because the left corpora is a little longer than the right side and causing it to bend that way a little? Is it because the right side was the side I had the scarring and the plaque incisions done , causing it to be bumpy ?( Think of corrugated tubing). Whatever the cause , i don't like it and am losing hope that it's gonna go away with time. I often wonder if the softer AMS material would do the same. The Titan kinda has a soft plastic feel to it under the skin .

Now having said all that ... I'm still thrilled with my implant! All the imperfections are minor compared to having ED and not being able to perform like a man. It was torturous to have a beautiful wife and knowing you can't really do anything. THOSE DAYS ARE BEHIND ME FOREVER NOW AND I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER !

.....just thought of more Pro's and Cons of each
- I liked the titan one touch pump at the time . Seemed like there were complaints about the AMS pump . Now AMS has the new Tenacio pump .... waiting to hear the reviews on that.
- I love the big flaccid the titan has. I'm assuming the AMS CX is the same. I'm not interested in the LGX at all
- I'm just hoping when revision time comes , that both these companies keep improving, however minor, the technology and materials they use in their implant products. At that time I'll make my decision based on that . NOT THE NAME . Flaccid state will factor into my decision next time .

.....another thing I didn't like about AMS at the time .... THE SIZING! Nothing bigger than 21cm . I didn't want RTE's ( seems to be alot of negativity around those ) .

If I am not mistaken the AMS has a higher Leak Rate/Failure rate than the Titan from what i have read......

The RTEs should be properly used to locate the hoses coming out of the cylinders into the scrotum. Since all men are different, the distance between the base of the crux and where the scrotum is changes. Since you cannot change the location of the hoses going into the cylinders, the RTEs are used to move the hoses distally for the best outcome. Adding RTEs at the very base of your crux should have little to no effect on the implant (within reason, you don’t want 10cm of RTEs)
2/22/23 AMS 700 CX 21cm + 1.5cm RTEs. 58 yrs old, wife of 37 yrs. Penoscrotal. 100ml Conceal reservoir. Dr. Clavell. Pills failing and went right to implant, skipped the injections. 12 mos. later: 7 1/2" x 5 3/4"

Dr Eid wrote to me that AMS and Coloplast devices have similar failure rates, but the modes of failure differ. AMS having more failures in the inflatable cylinders and Coloplast more in the tubing, connectors and pump. This information is from around 2017, so may be dated.

Can you recall your sources? It would be valuable to everyone here, I think.

Let me chime in with this interesting study which was published just 2 months ago:
https://amj.amegroups.org/article/view/9344/html

There you can find a whole section on "Differences in mechanical failure location by manufacturer", which pretty much goes in pair with what dr Eid wrote to you sir - except for that AMS had more pump failures too.

Last night i was reminiscing about this post I made yesterday and started laughing. I'm a huge football fan and am excited about the upcoming season . Then I realized my post was basically the implant version of a football saying... " the most popular QB on the team is the backup QB ." If your team is struggling, the starting QB always gets the blame. The fans want the QB sitting the bench to see what he's all about . They know what the starter brings to the table . I think I subconsciously did the same thing with this post. I'm curious about the implant I don't have . I know what the Titan brings to the table

I would pick comfort over size any day of the week
Born 6/15/74. I have substantial venous leak with fairly severe hour-glassing, but no hard plaques. My urologist is sexual health expert Dr. Laurence Levine who performed a Doppler Ultrasound and diagnosed me with VL in 2020. I also have mild BPH
