I'm 5 weeks post surgery this Friday and had a follow up at 3 weeks. Everything was fine, he wanted me to start cycling and said I was ready to go. Wound was clean and healing nicely.
I've done everything asked if me as regard to keeping the area clean. The wound area has been swollen for the last two days. Very red and sore. I called and the consultant wanted me to go see him.
I met him today and he wasn't happy, afraid I have infection. He wants me to stop cycling and can now have a bath to clean the area. He's got me on antibiotics and wants to see me this time next week.
I've been Googling since and apparently failing the antibiotics the next step is a replacement of parts around the area.
Has anyone been through anything similar regarding an infection and what was the outcome?

Did the doctor say if there is any test to confirm wether this is really an infection or not?

Thanks. No he didn't, I guess he didn't want to say too much until he sees me next week.

Implanted 6-2023 ..30 days later swelled up the size of my hand 2 days after follow up appointment .. long story short they thought I had an infection. They cut it open like a banana never found an infection .the implant looked fine so they left it in place and sewed it all back up .. I was told at this time you can develop an infection up to 3 years after an implant which I found to be amazing .. and my dr. is one of the leading implanters in the country.

Do you know what caused the swelling?

Re: Infection after Surgery
In my case my first implant was defective and failed at about 67 weeks, the next became infected after da8 post surgery. It had to be removed and 11 months later I was probably 98% healed but changed surgeon and model of implant.
My recovery from the last implant has been nothing but textbook perfect.

Re: Infection after Surgery
A superficial infection can be treated effectively with oral antibiotics. If that doesn’t seem to be working, some doctors may recommend culture tests from a deeper area to identify the specific bacteria and prescribe a more targeted oral/IV antibiotic.
I hope your infection is only superficial.

Thanks, I hope so too. If he has to go back in I might keep at him to top me up with some extra RTEs or something
I'll keep everyone updated.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, love that attitude! Please keep us posted.
Re: Infection after Surgery
Update: I had my follow up review today following the antibiotics and infection appears to be on the surface rather than internal.
Swelling and redness has reduced. I can resume cycling within 7-10 days based on the pain coming from the area. I'll probably start cycling again today if I'm honest.
