How is erect girth measured (by the doctor) for 3 piece implant sizing?

Basically my question is the subject. It seems like every article online that I come across talks about how doctors will size your length for an 3 piece implant, but I've never seen a single one mention how girth is measured. I know for my own body, my girth can range a good half an inch or slightly more depending on the circumstances, so it has me wanting to know.

On one hand I'm terrified of being short changed and going from average to a standard deviation below average, I want as much as I can possibly get. On the other hand I have the mental image of what happens to a balloon when it is filled beyond what it can handle . I've also heard people say their post implant girth is more than they EVER had before, so insight on that would be good as well.

The tunica is very strong. It is able to contain the implant diameter wise. Trust me, I've tried hard to stretch my tunica. The rear of the implant sits in a pocket so to speak. Sizing for length is important because the tissue in your glans is delicate. If it is subjected to an overly long implant. The tissue will be damaged. So length sizing is important. You body takes care of the girth.

I'm kind of a case to point at. I have an honest 6" girth when my CX is inflated. There is at least one member that is considerably larger than 6" with a CX. If you read other men with my exact same implant. You can find some of them at 5" girth. Its not like buying shoes by length & width. Implants are length only. Your body limits the size of your girth with the tunica. Its a genetics thing.

I'd like to add this thought. Senior members consistently advise to find a good dr. Btw, there are quite a few good drs in the USA. Many reasons to be picky about your dr. Does he follow the newest anti infection protocols? Is he skilled in accurately sizing the implant? Does he keep up with the newest developments? It might be helpful if his staff is good at filing the insurance paperwork. You don't want unnecessary delays getting your surgery approved.

Don't worry about girth. Neither you or your dr can do very much about it.

Although the different models of implants have cylinders in different lengths (example: an AMS LGX comes in 18,19,20cm lengths for instance) they don’t come in different diameters. Frustrating, but they don’t see the value (profit) in making each length in a variety of diameters.

Coloplast Titan has the widest diameter, AMS CX is close. AMS LGX is slightly narrower.

Dr Perito, Dr Hakki, and Dr Clavell all put useful videos out on YouTube. You can find their videos discussing and comparing the different models.


Basically the surgeon will recommend a specific model/company based on a number of criteria and girth will be one of them. If you have a wide girth they will probably lean towards CX or Titan. If you have a narrower girth they may lean towards LGX.

But like everything in life, it’s more complicated than that. For that reason, find a great doctor and TRUST what they tell you.

When I talked to Clavell, he made a good analogy of a basketball (that's the tunic) and a balloon that inflates inside the basketball (that's the implant). The balloon will inflate as much as the basketball shell will allow. Many people here understand that. But it still remains unclear how some guys lose girth with CX, while others manage to keep it. Here on the forum, Gt1956, Rodsmen, and oldog12 have 6"+ girth with CX. Maybe they are exceptions, I don't know. But still, most guys here with CX have 5-5.5" girth, considering some of them had larger girths before the implant. The cylinders inflate inside. The rest of the girth is our corpora cavernosa. I think if a guy had a relatively good residual erection before the implant and it is maintained after the implant, the girth will be larger. for example, with a venous leak. And if there was, for example, a radical prostatectomy and there is no erection at all, then the girth will be smaller, even with Titan. I studied a lot, a lot of information. Probably even more than necessary. And I realized that in fact the width of fully inflated CX and Titan cylinders is not much different. LGX will be a little smaller. Dr. Hakki posted the latest video with a review of AMS and Coloplast cylinders on his YouTube channel. He measured the width of a fully inflated CX, it turned out to be 18.6 mm. Then he measured the width of a fully inflated Titan, which turned out to be 20.1 mm, and not 22, as Coloplast claims. He replied that in order to be calm about the girth, it is better to choose Titan, because even if something goes wrong with it, you will know that you have the widest cylinders that are on the market. The surgeon who offers me the operation, a very experienced surgeon, assures me 1000% that the lumen in the cavernous bodies after their bougienage is smaller than the cylinders of any implant, and that in some cases, the cylinders inside the penis do not even fully inflate. Therefore, it makes no difference whether it is CX or Titan. But from experience with those guys with whom I managed to talk, statistics show that guys with Titan have penises larger in girth. Perhaps this is because, since they were originally wide, they chose Titan. But this is just my guess. Some guys and doctors, when they see my penis, say: what are you talking about! Of course Titan! Most of us with implants have an opinion. Generally we are so happy to have erections that we think we have the best dr & implant ever made. Gained or lost size is relative in my opinion. I never ever measured my penis in the accepted manner. So how can I say I gained or lost length? Member tx8qa (spelled wrong) says, very truthfully that what little he might of lost is within a measuring number rounding error.
AntonS, here is someting to think about that most girth discussions do not consider. Your presugery flacid girth! My presurgery flacid girth was probably 5" or very close to it. So I'm not getting the full benefit of the CX size that you've quoted. Meaning my tunica is holding the CX in. Trust me, I've max inflated mine for hours. My tunica isn't going to stretch. I had originally said that the tunica sounds like tendon tissue & tendons can be stretched. Nope, at least mine won't. Always remember my flacid girth & the CX's total girth as I talk. Most mens after surgery girth will be close to their historical girth. Of course as with all surgery results may vary due to underlaying health conditions. I refused to post my sizes after surgery because at that time there was members that appeared to be tracking results. I did not truly measure until maybe 4 weeks but I could tell earlier by how my hand wrapped around it that I was VERY close to 6". Don't we all just know how our dicks feel? About the time of my surgery the Perito exercise came out. I tried it once or twice. With my CX there is no way to bend my dick after maybe 10-12 pumps. The exercise is misunderstood & now the internet "experts" claim it works miracles. No, if your cylinders are starting to adhere to your tunica then lenght is being held back. The exercise will break that adhesion & allow the cylinders to reach your glans if sized correctly. Thats hardly a miracle. At my first exam after surgery the very first thing the nurse did was rub her thumbs over my glans & said "great, your tips are in your glans perfectly". Circling back to picking a good dr. His staff is almost as important as him. My dr & his nurse are a team. Worked together for 10-15 years.
AntonS, I can't offer a guarantee & no dr will either. But if your ED flacid is good? By my experience you'll be happy with the outcome with a CX.
Dogears, I'll tell you about my CX's one dogear. Only a week or so in. I felt a bump on my right side near the base. It is not visible. So I investigated & rubbed it. Once was enough, yes it does hurt when rubbed. Next visit I told the nurse about it & she said it most likely was a dogear. She didn't even feel it. But here is the important part. It quit hurting after a few weeks. Benefit of the softer CX. I still can feel it but it doesn't hurt. But if I rub it steady it will start to hurt. Importantly, I nor my wife have never felt it during sex. To be fair, she was staying in our condo during my recovery. I don't think I even told her about it. Why add that anxiety to her life. Waiting for surgery I was calm, she was afraid I was going to die on the table. Wanted me to cancel. This is from a woman that brought up an implant twice before I even found a dr near me to consult with.

What you will get as girth is not something the doctors can predict or influence, in my case I had a beer can of a penis lol, it was over 6 inches in girth, I ended up with 5.25, i missed my old girth for a few months, i am now used to my new girth, i have read guys here that report having 6 inches in girth, the tissues we get will determine the outcome.
