Good morning all,
I am new to the forum and was seeking out advice from anyone who has had any experience with Dr. Casey McCraw in Las Vegas, NV. I am scheduled for my implant procedure within the next few months and feel just a bit nervous going into the surgery. A lot of my nerves come from overthinking too much about the surgery/recovery process. But any experiences regarding recovery (especially during the first month) would be appreciated. I did try searching more on the doctor here but only found a few posts. The Las Vegas area is notoriously known as not having the best healthcare so I thought I ask here since this forum has a wealth of information and I find reading about people's experiences to be helpful.
And just a little more background, I am going for the malleable Genesis implant rather than the IPP, mainly because I am a younger/ more physically active individual and wanted something that required less revision in the long run. The thought of having multiple revisions during the lifetime is very off putting.
I am also aware that the risk of erosion is something to consider with the malleable but that has to do more with the surgeon's placement/sizing than anything else. But either way, I felt for me that would be a better option.
Thank you in advance!

Re: Las Vegas Doctors/ Malleable Implant
Early in my search for an implant dr. I did an internet search of the Las Vegas area. This search didn't turn up any noteworthy drs.
A few members from the northern Utah area messaged me about Dr Brant. Covid had just started so there was a considerable delay in getting a surgery date. Part of his appeal was he has a pretty good core surgery team that has been with him for several years. My wife drove us to Las Vegas where we stayed in our condo for a week.
I can understand the issue with the distance. About 420 miles for you but its all freeway. Or you could schedule a cheap flight as long as you have a companion to go with you.
It would require about 4 trips. A month after my surgery a member from western Colorado had his original poorly placed IPP replaced by Brant. He has posted that he is happy with his CX. Brant only uses Boston Scientific implants. I'm perfectly happy with my CX.
On the surface, an implant surgery is actually pretty simple. But the skill is needed if there is any decisions that need to be made. Sizing isn't difficult but if any fibrosis is found or peyronies needs to be dealt with. Skill & experience is needed. If your local dr doesn't have the skill or training to deal with complications then you risk being undersized. Once you have an undersized IPP in you. Its really hard to get it replaced. Also, Brant is diligent in his infection protocol. A urine sample that shows no urine infection plus a pre op mega antibiotic. He also gives you an iv bag of a different antibiotic during surgery. His assistant told me that as of my surgery. He hadn't had an infection for about 4 years. Its this level of skill that you need to look for.
I can understand the travel being an issue. But if everything isn't texbook perfect. Is your local dr the man that can decide on how to proceed? Members travel all over the country to get implants. True they likely pass several good drs in their journey. But there isn't a substitute for skill, training & experience.
You might want to look at drs in southern California also.

Your surgeon McCraw is listed on the AMS EDcure site as a Center of Excellence..I would definitely sit down and talk to him. I did not see any Center of Excellence under Coloplast site. It is a big decision, trust your gut and no matter who it is ask about how they avoid infection and how they treat for it during surgery.

I’d also suggest checking out Dr. David Koslov, AMS Center of Excellence urologist at San Bernardino Urology, if you need a 2nd opinion consult, if you’re okay with a 3.5 hour drive from Vegas.

Re: Las Vegas Doctors/ Malleable Implant
Appreciate all of the responses. And @Vegasguy - hope everything goes well with your surgery and recovery.
Just curious - for those with the Genesis or other malleable implant how has your recovery been and how happy are you with it?
