I'm looking at an out-of-state revision surgery, and would be released and fly home the day after surgery. On my original surgery, I was uncomfortable the first few days.....but i don't know that I couldn't have driven home from an airport.
I know it's not something that is sanctioned, but the anesthesia will be worn off...so besides the discomfort....does anyone know if this would compromise the recovery?
or has anyone ever tried this?

I wouldn't want to do it. I would definitely need pain meds to attempt that so driving is probably not the best idea. Can somebody help you?

How long is the drive?
For me an absolute would be if narcotic pain meds were being used. If I needed narcotics then I would ABSOLUTELY not drive.
Can you get a friend or neighbor to come pick you up?
Or hire a car service or taxi?

My revision surgery was nothing like the original, never really hurt that much, no catheter to remove, yes the incision was a little tender but really the revision is nothing like the original. Good luck

Re: Driving home from airport - day after surgery
I drove 400 miles home the second day after mine without any narcotics. Kept IBUPROFEN on a schedule and ate narco as I was pulling in my driveway. Propped feet up within a half hour.
I’ve read of others driving much further. One poster recommended first class seats on plane.
Go with mindset that if you are uncomfortable pull over and prop feet up. From what I recall with my ride is that I wish I could have spread my legs a bit more as my balls felt squeezed a bit.

Re: Driving home from airport - day after surgery
My only dose of narcotics was the evening after surgery. I was uncomfortable the next day but was comfortable driving a short drive from our VRBO back to the hospital to have my catheter taken out. But I think it's an individual decision based on how you feel.
But an absolute NO if you're still taking heavy pain meds.
