Alcohol and Tobacco Post Implant

Postby Irish Lad 34 » Sun Oct 26, 2025 10:36 am

How long should you stay off the forbidden fruits after implant surgery?

I don't drink or smoke much. I go out for drinks maybe twice a month, and I usually smoke a pack of cigarettes when I'm out. Otherwise I don't smoke.

I read stuff that said smoking can dramatically increase risk of infection. Should you abstain from cigarettes for at least a year after surgery?

Irish Lad 34, first of all, I would advise that you do what your doctor says you should do.

That said, I would say that alcohol was an integral part of my healing process :)

Smoking a pack of cigarettes in a night twice a month is never going to be something a dr says is a good idea.

I would abstain personally. Why take any unnecessary risks while you're healing.

Drinking in moderation (1 or 2 drinks a couple times a week) seems to be fine. But smoking in any amount is well documented to be detrimental to wound healing.

If it were me I’d keep the drinking to a minimum and abstain from smoking entirely.
