Implant Failed - Revision Tuesday

I haven’t wanted to make this post, but my implant broke the morning of 8/3/26. I had pumped up while showering and shaving. Bent over to get something under the sink and felt something strange (fluid shooting out I guess) and then it started to deflate. Pump was collapsing when I tried that. Tried again in the evening and still broken. Reached out to Clavell the next day, he texted me back to call the office and schedule an appt. Called the next morning and had an appointment the next day, 8/6. He confirmed it had failed and asked when I wanted to get a new one. I met with his scheduler and booked the surgery for 8/25.

Wasn’t a whole lot to discuss mainly talked about getting the reservoir placed higher. We think mine dropped some the first time around and was a bit bothersome at times because it hits my pubic bone and it left excess tubing in my scrotum. Although I wonder if some of that issue is what led to the early failure. That excess tubing runs across the tube to the right cylinder and wonder if they rubbed there to cause the leak.

We also talked about the revision process which is slightly different, because he does use a catheter during surgery and he places a drain. They pull the catheter before I wake up but the drain remains for three days. There is a major washout with antibiotics and all that fluid needs to drain. I am hopeful the drain helps to minimize the swelling this time around.

I asked about the new titan, which he said he’ll have next month, but only the one touch pump is available until next year so I’m going back with the titan and the classic pump.

The last couple weeks have been tough. Not looking forward to the recovery but can’t wait to have a working dick again. Hopefully the recovery is easier and I’m able to avoid any increased infection risk.

Very sorry to hear that brother. Good that you've already got it sorted and have a great surgeon.
Best wishes for your procedure. Most report that revision is easier, and the Titan is said to be simpler to swap over.

Mine failed after just 8 months. Also happened to me in the shower. Got revision surgery on 7/21. My surgeon showed me a pic of the old implant. One of the cylinders basically split open width-wise. AMS 700 LGX w/Tenacio. Remarkably, the Boston Scientific sales rep blamed ME for rigorous cycling. Which of course, is ridiculous.

This Tuesday will be 5 weeks and I have to wait another two weeks to see my surgeon to activate the new one. He said I probably won't have to work as hard this time around to get my size back as I did do 7 months of cycling...rigorously or otherwise.

sorry for this, sounds like you have your recovery mapped out so good luck moving forward. im curious about costs with this revision if you wouldn't mind sharing the info. its always a concern when things go south so soon after surgery.

Where did it break, tubing near the pump?

Also you mentioned the reservoir moved down. Was there anything unique about Clavells submuscular placement in your case that contributed to the movement or was there anything unique in your daily routine for example heavy exercise that might have caused it?

Rooting for you, BP. You got an appointment the very next day, and your revision was scheduled within 3 weeks. That’s truly impressive of Dr. Clavell’s practice. What a wonderful time to be alive.

The fact that you’re getting a drain will significantly help with the scrotal swelling. Good luck with your recovery.

I’m lucky my insurance will pay. We were unsure at first since they have ED exclusions, but it turns out they pay for replacement. We did discuss self pay and that would have been $15k for the revision because of the warranty and special pricing from Dr. Clavell. He also gets special pricing from the hospital, anesthesiologist, etc. to keep the cost to $15k.

I am not sure where it broke yet, but hope that is identified when it comes out.

The reservoir dropping some likely happened immediately after surgery. I am guessing from getting up from the bed, coughing hard, sneezing too hard or something similar that pushes it out of place. Nothing odd about the placement. Probably just unlucky, but we’re talking about getting it right this time around, which will be great.
