Hi everyone -- I've been a member here for some time, but it's been a while since I have posted.
I have been using a pump, but never did like it very much for sex. I just started using Edex last week, and like many I have experienced the ache, but nothing I can't handle. I do have a couple of questions, though:
1. The Edex patient information sheet recommends injecting at 3 or 9 o'clock, about halfway between the glans and the base of the penis. However, if I look at the physician's prescribing information, it states "The site of injection is usually along the lateral aspect of the proximal third of the penis", meaning much closer to the base of the penis. I'm not sure why the discrepancy, but what has been your experience?
2. I have titrated up to 15 mcg (uro started me at 7.5), but have only able to get a partial erection, and even that starts subsiding within a few minutes. Penetration is impossible. My uro wants me to come back -- he thinks I am not injecting properly. That is possible, I suppose, but I really don't think so. I think I may have some venous leak since I lose hardness so quickly. That even happened to a lesser extent with the pump, even though I used two Osbon rings. I'm thinking of putting these on before injecting myself so that the medicine stays where it's supposed to. I believe some of you have also done this. Again, what has been your experience?
Thanks much.
Cary

Re: Injection site
cw,
It sure is nice to talk about just a single value: 15mcg.
That said, 15mcg delivered PGE-1 is still below the average amount (20mcg) needed by most men who use it. So you do have a way to go and could go a lot higher if need be (and if the ache is not too bad at higher values -- you an get used to it.
Also, on the position to inject -- yes I go for about 1" from the base -- not halfway up the shaft. I think also there's less nerves there than further up. It partly depends on if you can see what you are doing that close in -- if gut gets in the way etc. I am thin so no problems there for me.
Finally, you really are talking 15mcg and not 15 units of volume (.15 ml) correct? Edex and Caverject systems are stated in xx mcg delivered values not in volumes as I am sure you know -- but just checking. How are you mixing? 15 mcg in 1 ml and shooting it all? let us know .. just so we know for sure.

Re: Injection site
Hi Jim,
I have the 20 mcg size of Edex, so 1 ml of solution will contain 20 mcg of altprostadil. If I inject 15 mcg, I'll use .75 ml. And yes, so far the ache is very manageable, and there are several things I like about Edex. You don't have to refrigerate it. And PGE-1 by itself is supposedly less likely to cause either priapism or penile scarring. A little ache is a small price to pay, and I have found injecting myself is no big deal.
Actually my urologist was even worried about 10 mcg; I had to talk him into prescribing the 20 mcg kits. I am planning to move to 20 mcg next time I inject, and try the Osbon rings with the injection.

Re: Injection site
good idea to try the rings with the injections -- I use Trimix and not Edex, but the logic is the same. Inject, then put on the rings shortly (within 1 - 2 minutes) after. I find the rings too constrictive, so I am beginning to use Oxball Cock Slings (see here: http://www.665leather.com/page/100/PROD/10007S020/8015). You may want to try them - they consist of stretchy silicon material that applies the necessary pressure to the base of the penis, but without almost cutting your circulation off.
And also, based on the collective wisdom here, ensure you are a bit plump, semi-erect, before plunging the shot in - it makes the passage easier and less painful.
all the best - Punda

Re: Injection site
Thanks for the suggestion, Punda. I think what I'm going to do is use the largest Osbon ring I have -- should be enough, I would think, to simply hold the medicine in the cavernosa long enough for it to do its job. Also might take a Cialis beforehand.
For those who have done this, do you remove the ring after the medicine takes effect? Seems to me I have read this but don't specifically recall where.

Re: Injection site
The reason I started injecting was to avoid the numbing and desensitizing effects of constriction. Accordingly, I recommend removing the rings after the injection starts to take effect. Otherwise, there is no reason to use injections.

Re: Injection site
That was my thought also. Otherwise might as well stick with a pump.
