I was implanted on 6/29 by Dr. Robert Cornell in Houston. I read a large number of posts on this forum and others about the procedure and results before I made the decision. I have hypogonadism and was on testosterone enthanate in 1993. My wife and I wanted to have more kids so my urologist (not Cornell) switched my prescription to HCG 3 1 ccs per week. I was on HCG until 2001 when my twins were born. After their birth, I went on testosterone gel, first androgel 1% two packets per day and later a formulary testosterone gel created by Greenpark Pharmacy in Houston at 2 cc per day.
I was diagnosed with VL in 1999 and went on viagra, cialis, and trimix. Only trimix worked reliably at first. Then I had to go on super trimix and in 2015 quadmix with a cockring to get any results. I opted for an implant because I was concerned about scar tissue from years of injections and possible Peyronies disease.
Before I was diagnosed with VL, I was an avid penis pumper with an air pump. The doctor who diagnosed me said that medical science had not determined whether penis pumping was beneficial or harmful to guys with ED so I stopped. I looked up that doctor in 2013 on the web and he had published articles indicating that penis pumping was very helpful for guys with ED to prevent tissue shrinkage. Thus, I began to pump again first with water pumps and then with air pumps which I found more beneficial. I pumped for approximately 18 months before the surgery, one hour per day in 2 30 minute sessions. I never missed a day, even the day of the surgery. I also lost approximately 15 lbs in order to enable Dr. Cornell to size the implant properly for me.
Cornell examined me and said that he could use either Coloplast Titan or AMS CX, but that he preferred AMS because the chances for infection were lower than the Titan. He is very matter of fact and will tell you like it is and he is willing to spend time with you to answer any questions. He also stated that he could preserve my size with the AMS LGX. I opted for the AMS LGX. Presurgery I was 9" long and 6" girth, but could stretch to 9.25 in the VED. The surgery happened without any problems except that he had to put the reservoir on the left side of my lower abdomen. I had recent hernia repair surgery with tight mesh which prevented it from being placed in the normal location. I had minimal pain after the surgery and took tramadol for 10 days. Thereafter, I only used tylenol occasionally. He put the pump low in my scrotum and I have had no problems or pain pumping or deflating. I was able to pump even before he showed me how to pump. I would strongly recommend that anyone get a handgrip to strengthen your grip before the surgery. He also told me to keep the penis in the up position only until the scrotal scar healed to prevent rubbing and infection. I used the under armor boxer jock instead of the regular jock because the latter itched too much.
But I was so amazed that he was able to maintain my size. I am 8-3/4 length and 5.5 girth post surgery and with activation and continued use I can stretch to 9" x 6". He is truly amazing. The nurses and anesthesiologist at St. Joseph were very attentive at all times after the surgery. His office has been immediately responsive during the post operative period. I cannot imagine how my experience could have been better. I would strongly recommend him to any guy who is thinking about having this surgery.

I to was implanted by Dr Cornell, 6/1/15 with AMS 700 CX and am very pleased with his work. I was not aware that you can use a penis pump after you are implanted to get a little more size. Did Dr Cornell ok the use of the pump for you ? I started 6" x 6" and now am 5 1/4 x 5 1/4" I would like to get back to original size if possible.

Did you get the LGX or the CX? Your story says you selected the LGX but then your signature says CX.

I received the cx despite my mistake in the earlier post. Also, Cornell is now my uro for my supplemental testosterone. He prescribed Testopel for me which is significantly better than the gel.

Re: Dr. Robert Cornell
As you can read from my signature I got a CX. I asked about a LGX but he suggested a CX, did not discuss his decision, i.e., doctor know best.
I think he likes the AMS/CX, will ask him when I am inflated on the 15th. Healing up well, no soreness, but some tenderness to the touch.

Re: Dr. Robert Cornell
I am having my 2nd appointment with Dr. Cornell this afternoon. This is all in preparation for penile implant surgery. Based on your writing you are very pleased. I find this very comforting. How did you decide on going with Dr. Cornell? I've been reading a lot about other "higher volume" surgeons who seem to have much more experience in this area, Dr. Eid in NYC, Dr. Kramer in Baltimore and Dr. Perito in Miami. Did you also look into those surgeons? If so, what made you decide to stay here in Houston and trust Dr. Cornell with your very delicate surgery? I would like to stay in Houston and go with Dr. Cornell for 2 primary reasons, 1 - Total trust in his abilities and 2 - Financial savings. However I wish I could get more information, testimonials, surgery videos, etc.
How long did it take before you could get back to work and move around comfortably?
I'm sorry for all the questions but I'm very anxious and nervous.
Thanks so much.

Today at my follow up appointment with Dr. Cornellhe surprised with 2 things. 1st he said that my insurance approved my implant surgery and 2nd my insurance approved me changing my testosterone therapy to the more aggressive "1 injection every 4 months". I thought "great"! However he told me to lay on my stomach because he was going to inject the large injection of testosterone. Next thing I know I feel this sharp pain in my left buttocks and it felt like he pushed very hard into me. Then he stopped and did another similar step. Then he did it again! Let me tell you, IT HURT LIKE HELL! All I thought I was getting was a larger injection! Come to realize he had to cut an incision into my butt cheek to administer the testosterone and he had to do 2 injections. However it felt like more than 5 injections. When I finally got up, I saw a small scalpel next to the empty syringe and some other odd looking things that looked like they fit inside the syringe. I asked what he did and he said, "yes I had to make a hole to administer the medicine". He added "I would never tell you that before hand". I'm like "Shit"! Now I'm wondering if I have to go through that every 4 months??? It sucks!!!
Then a few minutes later I asked him if I can count on maintaining my length and girth after the implant procedure. He said to expect to lose an inch. An inch??? WTF? I don't know what to think. I don't know what to do. I need advice. Please!
He said I can schedule the surgery for a month from now if I want. Please I need everyone's advice. Thank you all so much.

Re: Dr. Robert Cornell
I did not lose any length and only 1/2 inch in girth. I have been using the VED and a flexible silicon cockring post-surgery to regain lost girth and they have helped. I have been getting night wood without using the implant. I also get the testopel injections and they hurt although not as badly as yours.

Barring any scarring and or peyronies, you shouldn't lose any length. I strongly suggest getting a second opinion.
