Implant replaced, Yeah! Now need revision, Doh!

Postby linebackerJ » Thu Mar 17, 2016 4:03 pm

So I got my 3rd failed implant replaced on Feb 24th. Better surgeon, much better experience, better and bigger device so I was ok with all that was done... now to the story.

I felt something off after a couple of days and some of the swelling had gone down (trust me after 25 years with a 3 piece implant I know what is and is not supposed to be there). This time there was a few differences, they decided to leave the old reservoir in place on the right side and put it on the left. They did attempt to remove it and I can feel that they did but in the end it would have probably done more damage to dig it out then leave it. 25 years and I have never felt it or has it ever impacted things I do (sports/working out) so I am pretty 'meh' about it. I could feel something poking in the scrotal area and there seemed to be a tube which wasn't attached to something down there. I figured it was part of the old reservoir and something that can be fixed easily enough. The only discomfort I had I was sometimes it would push against the skin and hurt (usually when bending down and such) depending on where it was. I can also move it around in the cavity to make it more comfortable. My surgeon had me cycling the device after 13 days (pain permitting) and when I did that it all worked and there was some discomfort again but I figured that was due to the early cycling and expected that. I also noticed that for some reason the top of the head of my penis seemed a bit off (like instead of pointing at high noon it was pointing at 10:30-11:00). Still everything thing worked, urinated fine, ejaculated fine, penis was straight when hard and it was inflated.

Since something was not quite right I saw my urologist and it turns out the back end of my right cylinder has slipped down in to the scrotal cavity area, not something I expected but I believe it can easily be fixed since all the plumbing is good. This also kind of explains the bit of a twist. I know he is prepared to replace if need but my hope is wont be needed.

Anyone ever have an issue like this?

So now I have a better understanding of what's going on. It looks like there may have been crural erosion or preferation which has caused the rear of the cylinder to slip through down into the scrotal sac. Looks like the it could be a quick fix using the rear tip extender sling.
(google had pictures)

I guess this happens quite a bit to people that have had multiple implants done due to scar tissue over time.

So here is hoping that the easy fix works.

Sorry about the problems, Linebacker. When do you expect to go back on the table--and who's paying for the revision?

Thank KM,

I saw him about the issue on the 15th and he guaranteed it would be done on the April 15th. I got a call and he is going to try and squeeze me in on March 23rd for the fix. May get bumped so the next date would be the April 6th or the 15th.

Being Canadian there is no cost to me what so ever since my implant was not elective and has been required since I was 17. I am also surprised how quickly he is taking care of this since I work for our provincial health authority and understand our public health care system and know that my issue may be not as urgent as someone who needs immediate attention.

The new device was also an upgrade in in size as previously I had a CX c/w 1cm RTE's and now I have an LGX c/w 3CM RTE. I am actually glad the RTE's are there and bigger since it should hopefully make the fix easier if he can to the sling.

Even though this complication happened I am still pretty happy with the urologist I have now.

At least he's taking care of it right away. Let's hope it will be fixed sooner rather then later. Please keep us informed.

Just an update as I lie in my hospital unable to sleep. The revision happened yesterday and went wonderfully according to the surgeon. They were able to put the cylinder back without having to dilate. Also they were able to just sew the tissue back up where the preferation happened. No need for a 'sling' or a windsock. I didn't even have a catheter in when I woke up in recovery. Only downside so far is that the new incision is bigger.

Guess I got lucky that the revision was an easy fix.

I will be going home later this morning and back to healing in comfort watching Netflix. Can't wait untill it becomes time for Netflix and chill.

I would be shiting my pants hoping it would go OK.... Good luck, and keep us posted. ARE you in Ontario by any chance?

That's good news. Just concentrate on recuperating.

Glad the repair went well! Get well soon! Cheers.
LGX 21cm .Milam 01/13/16. Horror; both service and surgical outcome. hated infrapubic installation. Kramer revision 03/01/17. 22cm Titan +1.5cm extender. Those who think their opinion is the only one that matters are a danger to themselves and others.
