How long for post-surgery implant cycling?

Postby oddjob » Sat Aug 20, 2016 3:05 pm

Here is a question for everyone who has had a penile implant surgery:

How long was it before you personally could begin the cycling protocol (inflating and deflating)...?

I am 3 weeks post surgery and due to swelling and bruising, can just now begin to feel the pump...good news is that it's located in the bottom of my scrotum...bad news is it is still fairly immobile and I am unable to break it free from the scar tissue/swollen portion of my scrotum to begin the cycling protocol.

My surgeon seemed to be a little surprised that I was not able to begin cycling at the 2 week post-op point, but I am on lifelong Coumadin due to having a heart surgery with artificial valve, so I bleed very easily...maybe that has some impact on my healing...

So, how long did it take you personally to begin cycling your implant after your implant surgery?

Dr. told me I could start after a few weeks but I decided to wait and go back 30 days after implant to see him. Glad I did as I still had swelling on the inside I could not tell about for sure. He did some inflation and then returned it to about 20%. I came back a few weeks later and it worked fine, swelling was gone and be mentioned a lot of patients start on their own and do not come back. Not sure how I would have known about the swelling. If you see photos of my penis after surgery and at about 45 days, swelling still there. After 60 it was gone and could notice the appearance and feel.

Take your time and be patient as it will go down and make it so much easier.
Implanted March 2nd by Dr. Kramer with AMS/LGX. Had a problem lower left (scar tissue) and he placed a larger (thicker) implant as you can here on the YouTube video. Got all back, ED over 10 years before Implant.

Dr. Karpman had me start cycling at one week to the day and cleared me for intercourse at three weeks to the day.
I am sixty-six years of age and dealing with gradually worsening ED for twenty years. At sixty-three I wanted something that worked reliably. I got an AMS 700 LGX implant in 6/25/13. I am entirely pleased with the outcome. My surgeon was Dr. Karpman.

Dirtman

Thanks for the voice of experience.

For a while, I was beginning to think that there was something wrong with my recovery, but after hearing about your experience, I realize that patience is the best medicine I can use in getting healthy again.

Thanks again, Brother!

My Dr. being more conservative, had me waiting until I went back to see him at 6 weeks. At a little over 4 weeks I got tired of waiting and on my own pumped up to about half what I am able to attain now. Seems like any time is a long time when you get a new toy. Like getting your boy a new bike for his birthday and telling him he can't ride it for 6 weeks.

I had to wait 6 weeks before the doctor had my start cycling my implant. It was just as well, there was so much swelling early on that it took 4 weeks before I could find the deflate button on the pump.

Oddjob,
I would not rush it, you need to let the swelling go down. This is from a previous post.....

Urologist Dr. Dineen says he starts his patients at 9 to 12 days after the op. However other papers found most patients were not comfortable (read painful :o ) inflated that soon. One paper said the average person started the VED Protocol Therapy was 43 days. Dr. Cornell activated me at 33 days, was able to pump to the max two days later and have been going for a total of 60 minutes every since. Since you are breaking the scar tissue you will have some discomfort for brief periods of time. You can always push the deflate button if it is to painful.

If you want to see the full post search for roninhouston and put in Dr. Dineen and inflated in the search box.

About 12 weeks for me. My incision (scrotal) was slow to heal and had to be re-sutured, which delayed the process. Mine was in 2008 by Dr. Kramer, but he did not give me any kind of inflation protocol, nor did I have an activation appointment. Things are different now.
