Traveling after surgery?

Postby DonBecker54 » Sat Apr 01, 2017 9:16 am

I'm still trying to line up revision surgery with Dr. Eid. I'll have to fly to NYC from AL. I'm just wondering how the flight back will be in terms of pain.

Any other traveling patients want to chime in?

My procedure was on Wednesday morning with Dr. Kraner. I flew home Saturday morning. I took 2 Tylenol, got a comfortable ride in the hotel limo, and I had a first class non stop ticket. The driver did the lifting of my bag. I rolled it in and checked it. The flight was fine, and I drove home. Your own bed sure is nice when you are sore and swollen.

Best of luck to you!

The dissection techniques and physician tricks make a huge difference on the level of swelling you will experience, hence impacting your traveling level of comfort. I have had three done, so I can attest to this particular situation.

My first surgeon left me with a grapefruit size swelling for over four weeks. With Kramer I did not have the need to even take Oxy for pain. Just ibuprofen for the minor discomfort.

longdayze traveled home to AL. I traveled to Mo. Most Kramer and Eid's patients travel. I know if you use Delta, likely others, if you take a wheel chair when you arrive at the terminal they will have one waiting with an usher for you at every stop plus priority boarding so you do not have to walk from gate to gate. Fabulous service. Normal tip is $5 at each terminal. Worth that to not have to find your way. That was a great help to me being some of the gates were on opposite wings of the airport terminals and I did not have to find my way. They will pick up and transport your luggage and call your shuttle at the arrival destination. I have had many surgeries. So many I would have to look at my list to count them. Into teens or 20's. Only 2 have been local. All the rest involved travel. Eid is used to traveling patients and keeps that in mind making sure you are able to travel. I think you will be fine. Hope you get that wreck fixed soon. Cheers.
