experience with 30G 1/2"

Postby newbie1 » Tue Jul 11, 2017 9:56 am

Hi:
I have been using 30G 5/16" needles for injections and have been having good results.
Last month I tried using 30G 1/2" needle (after reading some of the suggestions on this board) and I have several failures with absolutely no results (at least tried about 10 times, changed sides and further up or down the shaft locations). I looked and played with the 30G 1/2" needle and I noticed it is more bendable than the 30G 5/16" needle. Could the 30G 1/2" needle tend to bend and deflect off the tunica much more easily and that could account for the failures?
What have users of 30G 1/2" needles been doing to ensure good results?

Note: The heading still says 1". It should be 1/2". I don't know how to correct that.

All the posts I've seen about needle size have been in the range of 5/16" or 1/2". A one-inch needle seems like overkill.

yes i agree. 1 inch probably passes through the corpus cavernosum. 1/2" is mostly suggested.

I am sorry. It was my typing mistake. I meant 1/2" (half inch) but the same questions still apply.

Theoretically, the longer needle of the same gauge would bend more easily. Having said this, I don't understand why you would have this problem. I doubt that the additional length (4.7mm or 3/16") would cause you to miss either. I use 1/2" 30G with no problems. I don't think you'll ever know for sure, so I would switch back to 5/16" given that it works.

I inject manually (not with auto injector).
I push the 5/16" in to the hub (but not indenting the skin).
Should I push in to the point of indenting the skin?
When I push the plunger, I have to use a little bit of force (it is not like totally effortless) but I have to push it a little bit (but not a lot of force that feels like something is blocking)
