I think you guys are talking different implants. One is a malleable, yes there is two semi hard rods. There are two & three piece INFLATABLE implants. Inflatable three piece is the most common implant discussed here on FT. The use of the word three doesn't mean that the total pieces used are 3. More in that 3 types of items are implanted. A pair of inflatable cylinders, a reservoir & a pump.
Two piece inflatables seem to only be used for special situations in men who's anatomy isn't well suited for a reservoir. Thus the reservoir is in the pump housing. That seems to limit the amount of fluid that is available to be pumped into the cylinders. It is my understanding that the limited amount of fluid will limit the range of erection & its hardness.
