coming implant surgery
coming implant surgery
Getting really nervous. Three days until implant surgery... hoping for a smooth recovery. Any advise on what best to wear for the trip home afterwards? I'm pretty sure it won't be regular pants or jeans... do I need to supply my own underwear or is a certain type supplied? Thanks
55 years old. ED since 2002 total venous leakage after penile fracture. Tried all the pills and injections all failed to help. Some success with VED, but felt too unnatural to both of us, seldom used. Implanted 06/21/12. Trying to wear IT out.
Re: coming implant surgery
I'd wear something loose, like sweat pants. When I went home there was a lot of padding around everything. I also did day surgery, so I went home with a catheter. If you are overnight, they will probably remove that before you leave. I removed about 75% of the padding on day 3 for my flight home, and there was still quite a bulge from the remaining padding.
I'm sure it varies, but for me they put a tight jockstrap over my wrapped penis and scrotum, and that kept everything secured in place. I also had some boxer brief underwear, but that wasn't really necessary. If for some reason they wouldn't put a jockstrap on you, I'd say take some snug, elastic briefs of some kind.
Good luck. I too was really nervous beforehand. I can't imagine someone not being nervous. For me, everything, speed of recovery, pain, result, etc turned out better than I feared, and at least as well as I hoped. I sincerely hope you can say the same.

Re: coming implant surgery
You could try some brief type underwear and during healing a lot of us use pouch type jockey breif and I still use them. There has been a lot of disscussion on this board about the pros and cons of different type under wear, like compression shorts, jock straps and the briefs. What I think you will find is the feeling of aching pressure type pain centered up on your scrotum while you stand for a minute or two. Some type of suport helps this I think. But I don't think it makes a huge difference, you are just going to be uncomfortable for a while. I usually don't take pain pills but for this surgery I took them on the prescribed schedule for at least the first week or so.
So, you are getting implanted, in Houston? that is where I got mine about 1 1/2 years ago and dr. Larry Lipschultz did mine and I did a great job. It fits me prefectly. I hope you can stay calm, well sorta anyway, till then and have a good recovery and outcome. Mine is an AMS 700LGX.

Re: coming implant surgery
They sent me home in a support type of unders wear which didnt do anything. I wear either a regular uderwear with supportive or a snug jock strap. Wear what is comfortable for you and your body type. But dont wear anything TIGHT, just snug.
Two things to remember
The swelling will go down and a warm bath is your best friend.
Im one week and four days post-op and im almost back to normal, swelling is gone and i can touch it without any pain.
good luck and dont worry everything will go fine. Keep me updated.

I am 6 weeks and 5 days post op. I found Underarmour Jock at Academy Sports and they are really comfortable. Also Riddell compression underwear in the Sports section at Wal-Mart. Both work great and keep everything in place and pointed up.
Re: coming implant surgery
I am almost three weeks post op. I stayed overnight and was sent home with a jock strap support. I wore loose sweat pants for the ride home, the worst problem for me has been swelling in the scrotum (about the size of a grapefruit), which has gone down a little but is still so much that I have trouble sitting. I had to ask if I could take one of their blankets, which I rolled up tight and sit the back part of my butt on so my scrotum would have room and not be touching the seat. I was flat on my back for the first week and had to stand at the counter to eat my meals. I bought some Jockey pocket style briefs, which has been a godsend. I am hoping that I will soon be able to sit in a chair for more than 15 to 20 minutes at a time. The pain has not been bad at all, just the swelling.
Good luck to you on your up coming surgery.

Got home last night from the hospital... I wasn't able to pee after removal of the catheter so they put another one in and sent me home. I go to the Dr. office Monday morning to get it out. The doc said it was hard to get past all the scaring. He left it about 50% inflated because he wants the cylinders to set straight and not have the hard plaque flaten them out. Plenty sore and swollen, but from what I can tell everything looks fine. Dr. says he thinks I'll be very pleased with results. I think I'll let the pain meds do their stuff and gets some shut eye... Thanks again for all the support. I'll keep you all posted
