No specific difference I guess although the medical constriction rings are designed for a specific purpose. Novelty cock rings can be designed for a wide variety of purposes and in some cases multiple purposes.
I believe all medical grade constriction rings are medical grade silicone. Many novelty cock rings are silicone or at lest claim to be. However, some of the novelty cock rings are a jelly or another type of material, even metal. I mostly stick with silicone. With the medical grade VED constriction rings you should have more confidence in the quality of materials and workmanship. With novelty cock rings the variety of designs and materials varies greatly although in most cases they are the silicone or the jelly material.
Novelty cock rings come in all kinds of weird designs. However there are a bunch novelty cock rings that are essentially constriction rings although most don't have the handles to aid in removal. Some do. Most if not all medical rings have handles of some sort. I do have a couple of novelty rings that function well as VED constriction rings but I don't remember the brand.
Medical constriction rings are usually used much tighter than novelty cock rings. Novelty cock rings should never be used as tight as you would use a medical grade constriction. The exception to that would be if you needed to use a novelty ring as a VED constriction and it had handles or some other way to be easily removed when fully boned out. The same time limitations would also apply.

As you can gather from my response to the first question the answer would be a qualified yes. However, if you plan to use a ring in conjunction with a VED I think it would be best to use the proper medical grade ring.
I use medical grade constriction rings with my VED, usually. I mainly use novelty cock rings when injecting as a supplement to the injections. I would use them as a supplement to the blue pills but with me pills are only good as a supplement to injections or the VED with a medical grade constriction ring. I do often use pills to supplement both injections or the VED. I always use a novelty cock ring to supplement an injection.
Did all that make any sense? I think I rambled too much.

No you made sense. Medical grade constriction are usually much tighter and have handles to assist with getting them off. Now I know what to get thank you.

Re: What cock ring do you recommend
I have used many cock rings over the years, including a doubled over 1/2” wide rubber band around my whole unit. However, as my ED became progressively worse, only the Osbon tension band has enough tension to maintain my erection. In fact, now I often need to use two. Based on my experience. I would say the Osbons are made of a better quality, Stronger silicone which lasts longer and do not loose tension over time. I am currently using one which I bought over two years ago (probably used over 600 times.)

Re: What cock ring do you recommend
My (incomplete) understanding of the difference between a cock ring and a constriction ring is that a constriction ring is a subset of cock rings that is designed to cut off the flow of blood out of the penis. A lot of cock rings don't cut off all the blood flow. In the past when erections came easy, I liked to wear a strap around my penis and balls. It worked best when I put it on before becoming completely erect. Maybe it was an illusion but I felt it helped delay my orgasm and when it came it was more explosive.
As stated by dwarren1942 Osbon rings are the gold standard of medical grade constriction rings. They are a bit pricey and finding the best size, tension, and number can be expensive. When I use my Osbon(s) I use a foam sleeve which in addition to relieving some of the discomfort of wearing a high tension ring(s) makes it much easier to remove the ring(s) when done. Just slide the sleeve with the ring(s) still on off over your freshly lubed dick.
Lately I have been using a Mach 1 #7 ring to maintain a pumped erection with a tantus c-ring over my dick and balls. The foam sleeve doesn't work well with the c-ring so I haven't tried an Osbon with the c-ring.

I heard you can wear a cock ring for up to an hour if your penis is used to it. But a high grade osbon ring, how long should you wear those for?

This is text taken from the ErecAid Esteem User Guide found here: https://www.vitalitymedical.com/pdf/osbon-erecaid-esteem-manual.pdf
This is taken from page 11 of the PDF copy of the user guide. The page number of the guide is listed as page 2, so....?? There are other cautions in the guide you should read but it's copyright material so go to the link to read the PDF in it's entirety or buy a VED and read your very own User Guide copy.
"Caution Do not leave the ring on your penis for more than 30
minutes. Do not fall asleep wearing the ring. Leaving the ring on too
long may damage your penis by keeping blood from flowing into it.
Caution Allow at least 60 minutes between uses of ErecAid.
Using the rings too often may cause bruising at the base of the penis
(where the penis is joined to the body)."
I've been known to violate that second caution. But it's your dick that'll be falling off if it goes bad for you. As I've mentioned in a prior post, when I do violate that second caution I make efforts to flush out the blood with several pump and release cycles. However, that is not medical advice. It's contrary to medical advice so don't do it (Remember that dick falling off thing).
The bottom line is that if you're going to buy a VED, consult with your doctor and follow his advice and or instructions. That's what he/she is for and why they went to all of that school. I'm just you ordinary bubba (I'm sorry if your name is actually Bubba. No offence intended).
