Officially joined the club

Postby gjw70001 » Sun Jul 01, 2012 8:42 am

I guess I can say that I have officially joined the club. It's one thing to have the doctor do the injection to demonstrate, but it's another to do it yourself. I had my uro demonstrate a little over a week ago and this morning I did the deed myself. My uro injected .2 ml, I cut it down to .1 ml. Now JR is standing at full attention. The little lady is still asleep and will she get a suprise this morning! I have not been satisfied with the Viagra and pump / ring method. Just one thing, I didn't ask was how to properly dispose of the needle and syringe? It's been 23 months since my robotic prostatectmy and this is great. The video at the bottom of the "treatment, injections" did a lot to get on board. My uro gave me a care package with 5 syringes and 27 gauge needles and I am going to find out about getting smaller ones when I take his script for supplies to my pharmacy.

This is a game changer, once you get started and the mystery is gone, you wonder why you did not get started earlier :D

I would get 3 gauge needles and .5 ml syringes that are 5/16 (8mm) in length. The smaller size syringe allows you to get very accurate measurements with the amount of trimix you are using. You should be able to get a box of 100 syringes for about $25.

The ones I got from Walgreens are called "Super Thin ll Syringes, Short Needle for Insulin"

I started at .1 ml (10 units) and ended up at .5 ml which I feel I can start reducing slowly now that my rehab seems to be taking place. I have been on trimix now for 6 months and it is great.

Good luck to you and your little lady, now you have all the time you need to please her :-)

Cheers,

Curt

Re: Disposal of syringes/needles.
My wife (a diabetic) puts all hers ( and i add mine too ) in a coffee can, and when it is full, she tapes it securely so no one gets poked. The can goes into the regular rubbish. I don't know if this follows all the safety rules but it works fine for us.

Hope to see you in the CHATROOM sometime soon.

gjw,

Way to go on your first inject. That first time (when u are gonna get to use it) is always pretty exciting. Also nice that you can get away with 10 units -- that means 50 shots in a 5 ml vial ...

I've been using TRI for a year and a half now .. always reliable but I guess also we're getting a little nonchalant about it. For instance this AM did the shot at 7am ... wifey latched on and we dozed in and out for a bit (hey we got two hours!) .. But then it was time to get up do yard work before it got too hot so had to stuff in the shorts and get going on the bramble. Luckily some parts of the yard are secluded so could let willie out and work naked ... Heh. yeah, kind of a sad ending...

But There's always tomorrow.

Almost forgot -- I buy my syringes thru Amazon.com and only 12.50 for 100 -- and FREE SHIPPING.
Those are 31g and .5ml -- nice and small and non-initimidating.

I am also a diabetic. My Uro advised to use the sealed container in the garbage routine. He said that garbage in our area is incinerated so there is no health issue. If your area does not incinerate, you might want to drop them off at your doctor's office who has a means for proper disposal.

Thanks all for your comments. After injecting, I replaced the plastic protector over the needle, then took some electrical tape lengh wise for about 5 wraps. That should keep things in check. Maybe next time I'll use some duct tape length wise, that way the width of the tape will seal the needle and it's protecting plastic cover. Would the larger gauge (#27) have more of a tendancy to cause more scar tissue than the smaller gauge (#30) needle?

I found the 30 guage to not hurt at all and can only imagine it creates less trama on the tissue.

I'm going to try to get the smaller gauge needles when I bring my script to get filled. I don't know how strict they are changing the doctor's prescription on these things.

My prescription was also for larger needles and they had no problem at the pharmacy changing the size, just tell them what it is for and believe me, they will be sympathetic :-) If they don't want to make the change then have your Dr change your prescription. This is all new for me also, you just need to jump in, and get it done and soon you will be an expert.

I made my needle size and length choice based on what I have been reading on the forums that I am on and this has been really good information.

You need to be strong and tell people what you want, you are the one that has to deal with all this.

Let me know how things work out for you.

Happy 4th !!

Cheers,

Curt

Hi Curt,

I'm curious, what is the length of your needles. I am using 1/2 inch and I have seen guys referring to 5/16 inch needles. I have also seen where people have missed the sweet spot and not getting the benefit from injecting. I would think that with 1/2 inch needle this would not come into play.

Have a good 4th, too hot to put the gril on here in southeast Louisiana.
