Implant Should be Last Resort

Postby Mstone » Tue Jul 24, 2012 6:22 pm

I am now 10 months post Titan OTR implant. It seems to be working as advertised and I have adjusted to the implant. Actually I do not think about it too much.

My suggestion to those of you considering this option, you should exhaust all other options first. It does work but it is nowhere near as good as the real thing. You lose size, it is expensive, the erections are not as firm and you cannot be as spontaneous and rough with the implant.

With no other options I would do it over again, but it is far from a slam dunk decision. My advice is to not rush into this decision. If you have any chance of ever recovering a natural erection I would hold off on the implant. It truly is the last and FINAL resort.

I agree that it should be the last resort. I don't agree with all your other statements, though.

"You lose size". Many do. I didn't loose anything. I know of others who didn't.

"It is expensive". True, especially without insurance. My insurance didn't cover it. But Medicare and some insurers do. In some of those cases the net cost to the patient is pretty modest.

"erections are not as firm". Not for me and many (and I think most) others. When pumped to the max I'm harder and more rigid than I have ever been in my life, at any age. Pumping to the max is not necessary, and some women don't like it that hard. But I can easily get that hard.

"cannot be as spontaneous". I guess that's a matter of definition of spontaneous. I can have a reliable super hard erection in 30-60 seconds, anytime, any place, on demand.

"cannot be as rough". I can't really comment since I don't do "rough sex". But, I haven't experienced any need for special handling or restraint. "Normal sex" is certainly no problem.

Could you please clarify what is "not as firm"? Can you bend it when inflated?
If so, indeed that would be no different from my natural erection with the ring... I can penetrate but it is not as hard as wood.
Since I've gained length it is not really too big of a problem; but when I was shorter slipping out of vagina was a great annoyance and dissatisfaction.

Hi Danny, I just got my AMS 700 LGX on 6/28/12. Used it for the first time in 7/23/12. I have not yet been able to pump mine up to full capacity, and even where I got mine up to, I could not bend it if I tried. Firmness is incredible. I also do not feel as though I have lost anything in size. Hope this helps you out.

Hi k.b.marino
Thank you for the details. Yes I've heard from other people that an implant gives an incredible firmness so I am wondering why Mstone experience is different. Maybe his reservoir was not fully filled during the procedure...? Just a guess.

Speaking of shortening. I am not too optimistic about an ability to keep my current size (I am 17.5cm fully erected) but hope to get it very hard. I'd have to decide with my wife what she would prefer - long and semi-rigid when using the ring; or shorter but harder after the implant.
My current problem with using rings is that I cannot climax due to numbness. Sometimes I can but I have to be arose to the level seldom possible at the middle age. Other problem with the ring is that my wife likes when the intercourse lasts very long so t is pretty easy to pass over 20 min limit that constriction rings are giving you. It is all trade-in.
Only if the implant was a devise that lasts forever I wouldn't hesitate to get it. But the idea of having it replaced every 10 years doesn't sound that great considering the fact that each surgery will shorten my dick even more.

My euro says he has done 15 implants this year. 100 in his career. You will never know how much I appreciate your honesty. Im about 18 months past my prostate removal. My euro is not pushy about the matter but neither was he totally honest before surgery. My wife had had cancer three timew so I wanted to get it out. Si I did, Ive taken evey supplement known to man, still no har d on. I take trazadone for sleeping and sometimes gets me a bit of morning wood. The Des Moines area is about half a mil, and my euro and about 10 others are very busy. I sometime think he doesnt really give a sh it. If you have the time Id like to hear fom you. newly 1

I underwent the Coloplast Titan Penile Implant Procedure 41/2 years ago after developing ED Post-Prostatectomy and have achieved a rock-hard erection every time I pump it up.
This was done after the other ED Treatment Modalities proved to be unsatisfactoty for me.
I agree that the other Modalities should be tried before deciding on the Penile Implant.
Personally, I would be implanted again in a heart-beat.
Hope this is helpful.

Hey, guys...especially to you, Bob. Next Monday at 1:00 pm I have my surgery to get my implant and I am absolutely looking forward to it. Nothing else has worked at all so I see the implant as being the answer to my prayers. The input that I have gotten from all you guys has given me the incentive and the positive expectations to go ahead with the procedure.I realize that there will be a period of discomfort while I recover from the procedure itself but , at this point in my life, the pain/discomfort is worth the prospect of many years of physical/sexual bonding with my wife.God, I have missed that for these past 15 months!!! 8-)

Yep, the loss of intimacy is the part of ED that sucks the most.
Born 1948, wed 1969. BPH & Type II Diabetes at age 35. TURP-2002; ED even before that--diabetes. Cardiac valve surgery: 2007 & 2019. Poor results with pills. Started trimix injections in Nov, 2010. Great results from the very beginning.

I couldn't disagree more. The decision to go under the knife should not be made lightly, but all issues involved play into the decision.

In my case, injections worked quite well 90% of the time, but I was detecting scar tissue that concerned me (though not my doctor), I was under a time constraint (it takes me half an hour or more to reach climax in most cases), and there was nothing spontaneous about getting up out of bed in the heat of the moment and sticking a needle in your dick and waiting for it to work.

It's not rigid, you got to be shittin' me! I can pound nails with this thing. I will lay a bet nobody can produce a natural erection harder than what I can get with the implant. Can't get rough? I dare you to stand in front of me and say that!

Expensive? What's the value of feeling like a complete man with the confidence of being able to perform at any time? I consider it well worth the money.

Size, I didn't lose anything. Even if I did lose 1/2 inch, it would still be better than what I had.

I would say that you need to do a careful evaluation of all things considered and proceed forward. I only wish I could have done this 10 years ago. The psychological boost this has given me is something I didn't consider going in, and that is well worth the money and any temporary discomfort.
