Finally decided to take the plung

Postby dagobx » Tue Jul 31, 2012 2:10 pm

Hi guys! Newbie here, just recently joined. I decided to join due to the frank & honest posts from many of you, particularly the discussion about injections. I have reached the point in life where this is something I will have to do if I expect to continue to be sexually active.

I am 65, live on the Outer Banks of NC - the farthest you can go in NC & keep your feet dry. Things are pretty sparse out here, the nearest WalMart is 65 miles away. I live with a woman 10 years younger than me, which is what prompted me to go the injection route. I am a Vietnam veteran & the VA is my main medical system. I am retired. The only other medical services out here is a local "doc in a box" affair which has a couple of good doctors, one of which used to be my primary care until I lost my medical insurance & had to go with the VA. I still see him once or twice a year, just to keep the relationship alive.

On my last visit to the VA, I had an appointment with the Uro's there. ED is one of the three service-connected disabilities I have, so they readily saw me for my problem. They only have Edex. I went through the "titration" experience & was quite surprised to find that there was no pain with the injection. There was some pain associated with the Edex, since they kept it in the fridge & it was cold. They have approved me for 6 injections a month (way more than I will need) & I expect delivery sometime next week. So we will see if my journey into the world of injection will be worthwhile. At least the medication will be free, since it is for a service-connected disability.

So, that is my introduction & an overview of my situation at present. Thanks to all you guys who posted here that prompted me to seek this treatment. I can only hope that this works, since the only option left is an implant.

Dave, Welcome to FT. You will find a great group of guys here that are willing to help. I am one of the guys that went with injections. I also use Edex and have had great success with it. I was one of the lucky guys that the drug did not cause the ache that so many get. The only porblem I have with the Edex is the needle on the set up, I find way too big. I like to use a 31g needle.

Best of luck with your rocket fuel.

Dave,

Here's some good news and advice. Since you are stuck with Edex and only six shots per month, you can do what others have done in that situation: First you insist that they give you the 40mcg strength script. Then, since it is unlikely you will need a full ml, you transfer all the contents into a small sterile vial (buy on amazon or anywhere) and then use small 50 ml syringes (30g) .... also buy on Amazon $12/100 .... and now you have 6 ml of product to divvy up as needed. The less u need the more shots you can get per month ...

Hope that gets your hopes up ...

Thanks for the replies, guys (& gals, if present)...

Yeah, I guess I'm stuck with Edex for a while. But it works!! I read about the pain when injecting, especially when the solution is cold, but I have found it not painful at all. Forunately, this stuff is powder & must be reconstituted before use - no refrigeration. There is some pain at the base of the penis after the injection, but I suppose that is the medication working on the muscles/veins, but it's not a problem at all. There was some discussion at the VA's uro office about some other medication when it Edex didn't work anymore & I will pursue that option on my next visit (November). Maybe they will prescribe a trimix when the time comes.

As far as the number of injections per month are concerned, it will be plenty since my GF is not in the mood that often. She did really appreciate the quality of the erection with the Edex, but she co-owns a motel here with her ex & has to spend a lot of time working, getting very stressed sometimes. I told her that now we could take care of some of that stress now, but I don't know if she's buying it :D We will have to see if the number of injections available is sufficient, but for now it will be.

JimStars: I'm not sure I understand what you are saying about collecting & divvying up the doseage. The Edex I'm using comes in a pre-packaged powder filled "capsule" with two chambers with the capsule, one with powder, one with saline. It also has the needle attached. You insert this into a sort of syringe, push the plunger in part way to mix the powder with the saline solution, then inject into the penis. I don't see how, with this configuration, that any of the mixed medication can be saved for later use, especially since they make it a huge point that the mixture is only good for 24 hours. You obviously know something I don't

At any rate, I'm pretty satisfied with the product, although I'm sure there are better ones out there. The process of preparing the mixture, injecting & stopping any bleeding is cumbersome & time consuming, but you have to do what you have to do. I would like to hear from others out there that are using Edex (or Caverject) & see what your experiences have been & to gain any additional suggestions.

Two comments: (1) Trimix is cheap: $120 vial lasts me almost a year and I shoot up 2-3 times a week. Granted, I only need a small dose, but still. (2) For SO many health reasons, and with or without a partner handy, the male of the species should experience orgasm and ejaculation multiple times per week. Of course, there's usually no jizz after a prostatectomy, but you get my drift.

Please don't settle for "now and then" because you think you have to.

Thanks, Greg...

I'll have to see if the VA will provide anything other than Edex. I think they do, but do it on an "as-needed" basis. In other words, if the Edex stops working they will move on to something else, but not until then. I have an appointment in Sept. for another doctor, but can swing by Uro & ask what their policy is.

Yeah, I agree with the idea that a man needs to reach orgasm several times over a certain time period. I do not wait for my partner to get in the "mood", 'cause if I did I'd be waiting at least a couple of weeks - has been as long as 6 weeks. Thinking about making a change in that department...
