I just discovered the site and I have been reading for a few days now...great discussions. I am 48 and had Radical Protatectomy surgery back in Oct. of last year. My Doctor, who is very well know for the Robotic Surgery, told me since I am young and should recover quickly...3-6 months. He said the surgery went very well and he saved both nerve bundles...well it's been 10 months and I still can't get an erection. I am starting to get a little something going now but even with Cialis, I can't get an erection. It's been very frustrating and I have been using a pump to my wife and I can have sex...definately not the same but getting by. I keep her happy orally, and I get by with the pump. Questions I have...is my progress typical? Is there things I can do to speed up the recovery? What ED medication should I take and what is the most effective at my stage? Any input would be appreciated...Thanks

I would get in to see you uro ASAP to get on trimx injections. It works for a lot of guys and is great therapy. My uro told me the same thing. Young (53) strong with great muscle tone and no ED problems before surgery. He said I had a great chance of full erection recovery. Well?? 3 years later I use a combination of trimix, pump and constriction ring together with limited success. I'm planning to get am implant but with no insurance it will happen when it happens.

These URO's all go by the same playbook ... "it could take up to two years to recover" ... however in the real world very few guys recover fully after robotic surgery (myself included)

I agree with jefgam ... talk to your URO about injections ... he'll give you a test shot in the office (to see if it works) as some guys have venous leakage so bad the medicine leaks out before it takes effect. Although injections are not spontaneous, it does work for most guys in your situation ... just be careful with the dosage.

Ask your URO for a "testosterone" check (simple blood test) ...

Jeff, don't give up. After my surgery I didn't get any erections for maybe six months and the improvements continued for three years. The best advise I can give you is go see you doctor and talk about trying injections. He will most likely try you on Edex or Caverject(both brand names for alprostadil). I waited 18 months before I did and that was the biggest mistake I made. I wished that I had done it right away.

Jeff, welcome to FT. I sure wish the Dr. Would be more aggressive with ED treatment after prostate surgery. The new protical is to start things up with injections. Some guys have reported that once Jr starts responding to the injections things improved. It is with a try for ure. I can tell you that injections gave that port of our life back. Good luck.
