Torn on a decision and need advice/guidance

Postby medhatg » Mon Apr 27, 2020 4:19 pm

My implant failed and very stressed out as I'm trying to go back into business again. I got a decision to make.
I'm from Canada, but considering the ban of electives in Canada that could last for a long time, and the wait-list due to government-run health system, I cannot wait for another year; therefore I've decided to get to the US, bite the bullet and pay out of pocket:
Here are my options to get it done quick as I love to hear advice/perspective:
- Dr. Perito: 25K: mid or late May (not confirmed)
- Dr.Christine: 21K, but I might have to wait till June.
- Dr. Hakky: he started to do it at the office for low-risk cases staring early June. For the clinic, the cost is around 16 or 17K, 22K at the hospital
- Dr. Karpman: 19K late May.

I did not consider Dr. Kramer (25K) as he's off until August, nor Dr. Eid (29K) as the cost was a bit high for me.
I look forward to your advice.

Agreed. Heard nothing but praise for Dr. Eid. A few of the others have pretty low reviews from independent sites. Dr. Kramer is off until August? Is that from Covid-19 restrictions or is he scheduled to do something else for a couple months?
Fifty-one years old. ED started at age forty. I took Cialis for eight years and used Trimix for almost three. Implanted 12/6/22 by Dr. Jonathan Clavell. AMS 700CX 21cm.

I exchanged emails with Dr. Kramer and his assistant Jose. He told me that their clinic would not commit to any scheduling until August due to Covid19.

Unfortunately, many of us who have had the implant in the US were convered by Medicare or other health insurance programs. however, from what I have seen, the costs are pretty much the same across the board, varying slightly. I stayed in hospital overnight and with that figured in and based on what was charged to Medicare and my other 2 insurances, the cost Is around $26000 + OR - Certainly with this current issue with the virus and not allowing elective surgeries you may have to wait. Now from my perspective, and of course based on your own circumstances, waiting another month or so after the ED that brought you to this point, I would be patient. I had my surgery at Mayo in Florida and I works Irene you to look into the Map in Minnesota or Arizona. Incredibly high ratings and statistically fewer post operative concerns. Hope this begins the conversation.

Sorry about that spelling: what I was saying is I would urge you to look into Mayo.

How long did your first implant last? I’ve used Hakky & he’s really good. I’ve had my initial implant fail after a year. The pump revision lasted 4 months. I’m about to do a 3rd complete revision within 2 years. I had been using the Coloplast Genesis/Classic pump, but about to try the One Touch this next go around
Implanted by Dr. Hakky on August 6th, 2018 Coloplast 22 cm. Genesis pump failure 8/17/19. Revision 9/10/2019. Genesis pump failed 2/27/2020 while having sex. Second revision scheduled 4/7/2020 with new Titan One Touch pump instead of Genesis

My Titan (2008) recently gave up the ghost, but I have no plans to get it fixed or replaced.
Dave, 80, Maryland - Implant (Titan) 2008 by Dr. Andrew Kramer (failed Sept 2020) - never used due to a stroke that, among other things, ended my sex life.
Life is not the way it's supposed to be, it's the way it is.
