Hello my boyfriend is 7 weeks out from having the 3 piece implanted and he is already having regrets. He is depressed because of decrease of penis girth and length which in my opinion is more than 2 inches. He was previously taking the injections with the vacuum pump and bands but couldn't ejaculate and had pain after 30 minutes and swelling and bruising for days after. He used Viagra with the implant and it got bigger and the glans swelled but hes still not happy. Does anyone have any advice? He asked me to research for him. I have read about augmentation with penile prosthesis implant and he wants more info. Im also curious and want to learn more about men who have had their prosthesis removed and their stories. Please help he's a 43, unmarried, no kids, nice guy. He's been in counseling for a year now cause of his ED. Thanks
Update: he measured his penis while inflated yesterday it measured 4 3/4 and girth was 4, he didn't measured before surgery but we both estimated 6 1/2 inches with a bigger girth. He didn't have any medical problems just the ED. The model he has is the Ams cx. I would appreciate anything helpful you guys have to say:)
Size after implant
Re: Size after implant
Did he have peyronie? It is rather strange that he was implanted with CX at this size. Usually CX models are used for the patients either with peyronie; or those like myself who has longer but narrow penis (I am more than 7" but not thick).
Penile shortage is a common case though 2" sounds like a bit too much.
Did he have a pre-op preparation with the vacuum pump?
From what I know, the revision technically can be made with the longer implant but this is usually more costly than an initial installation.
Inexperienced doctors tend to inset shorter-than-needed implants just to cover their asses from the litigation prospective as the possibility of shortage is explicitly articulated in the consent that the patient signs prior to the surgery.

Re: Size after implant
OK, I was mistaken he has the Ams 700 ms model. He used the manual vacuum pump before surgery to retain as much length as possible and I agree 2 inches is alot. He doesn't have any diagnosed penis problems other than ED. What should he do?
Re: Size after implant
Did you lose any length?
Re: Size after implant
At 7 weeks, he should be pumping up at least once and day and holding for a while. Each day he should try to add a pump or two, The AMS700LGX is an expandable implant and he should be gently trying to stretch himself.
I am just 4 weeks out from implantation. And can be anywhere from 5 inches to somewhat over 6 depending on how many pumps I do. The number to max is somewhere greater than 30, how much greater depends on anatomy and pumping technique.
Find out what the implant cylinder and tailpiece sizes were, that will give you some idea of what the hardware will provide. Girth wise his minimum girth should be about 3 3/4 inches and the maximum should be around but greater than 5 1/8 inches.
Minimum length should be some where near cylinder length + tailpiece length - 8. for internal all divided by 2.54 to take centimeters to inches. Maxmimum could be as much as (cylinder length * 1.18) + tailpiece length - 8. all divided by 2.54.
All these numbers are the mathematics and physics of the implants, the actual results depend on anatomy, pumping technique, and pain threshold.
Best information I can provide.

I seriously doubt the size loss was from the Implant ... sounds more like your boyfriend had issues (scar tissue) which contributed to the loss.
He used Viagra with the implant and it got bigger and the glans swelled but hes still not happy. Does anyone have any advice?
This is quite common as there is less blood flow in those areas now ... but he needs to give it time. As other have stated he should be pumping (Implant) twice a day, for about an hour for each session ... as Radio suggests ... start slow and add a pump or two ...
I have read about augmentation with penile prosthesis implant and he wants more info.
In the following artice the URO injects collagen ... which requires yearly injections ... sounds costly given his age ...

I doubt you will find anyone here that had it just removed ... you really don't want to do that!
he measured his penis while inflated yesterday it measured 4 3/4 and girth was 4
At 7 weeks he has not reached the peak increase from pumping the Implant ... give it time, but he needs to put in the effort daily to realize it's benefits.
He didn't have any medical problems just the ED.
Of course he has medical problems ... otherwise he wouldn't have had ED.

The AMS CX model expands in girth only ... and as others have stated is usually only used when scar tissue exists ... or penis is very skinny (which doesn't seem to apply here). I noticed in a follow-up you said the model was MS ... that is not a type of Implant. MS = “Momentary Squeeze" a feature in the pump.
I would recommend contacting your URO and find out exactly what model you have and what size cylinders were used. The cylinder size determines the expected length. One very important thing to remember ... a 5" working member is better than a 61/2" that doesn't!

It is true the CX doesn't stretch lengthwise. But, like the Titan, there is still a difference between flaccid and erect since in the flaccid state the cylinders collapse somewhat. And people can still get length expansion over time if the unit is slightly oversized to allow for the caveronsa to stretch a bit over time.
Also, AFAIK, the CX has the same girth potential as the LGX, and there are certainly docs who recommend the CX without scar tissue or a skinny penis. AMS makes a unit called the CXM which is specifically for narrow and scarred penis. This should not be confused with the CX. Coloplast also makes a unit called "Titan Narrow" for the same purpose. Also some docs who like AMS actually recommend the CX over the LGX for larger penis sizes because it comes in larger length sizes and they believe it has better axial rigidity than the LGX.
I fully agree that 7 weeks is way, way too early to evaluate the status. More like 6 months minimum would be a good evaluation point. I also agree that finding out the size of the unit and any RTE's is helpful. Also the unit model (CX vs LGX) should be clarified. I also agree the unit should be pumped daily, provided the doc has cleared for this (sometimes guys aren't cleared by the doc for even 9-10 weeks post-op). I'm not convinced an hour at a time is necessary. It may be that 10-15 minutes at a time is enough. Docs do not all agree on this point.
What does the surgeon say about the size?? When its pumped up are the tips "into the glans"? If so how far? This is a very basic test of fit. When its fully deflated and flaccid, do the cylinders buckle a little? For the Titan, and I think for the CX, this would be normal in a fully sized unit. When its pumped to the max is there pain in the tips (glans) and maybe also in the ends inside the body. This would be common during the early stages of pumping for a fully sized unit which is stretching the body (stretch translates to pain at first). After a while this pain would go away after the body adjusts and stretches.

Re: Size after implant
Tiffany,
An embarrassing question coming. Have you tried him on for size yet?
That is an important question, since the fit is the real measurement of interest. Implants do change the shape of a penis, it tends to get more oval than round with implants, also some of the give of the original goes away.
My wife had some problems adjusting to the new shape, initially it hurt when we started. She was having to stretch some to match the new shape. Bottom line, the two of you won't know the real size until you take it for a ride.

Re: Size after implant
I am 9 1/2 weeks post implant and still dealing with serious loss in length and girth. I've lost about 1 3/4" in lengt.h and 1" in girth. Pre-implant, with either the pump or injections, I was much bigger. I now regret that I took this path, but now I'm stuck.
I fell for the hype and promise of an implant. My advice to anyone considering, do so only if it is your last resort. In my case, I could have avoided the expense and pain and continued with the pump or injections. Now I feel totally screwed and have no recourse.
I really believe these Docs have a racket going. I've had three surgeries in 4 years and none has ever quite fixed the problem.

Re: Size after implant
Believe it or not, I agree with you Steve.
I was out of choices when I decided for implant. Also went in expecting, pain, swelling, about an inch of length loss. From descriptions was expecting several weeks of major to minor discomfort and or pain.
Had severe doubts and misgivings after first implant attempt was aborted due to the need to correct complications of my RP (didn't have any choice on that either, cancer discovered was considered aggressive). With no viable options I proceeded to implant.
That didn't go quite like expected as far as surgery itself; it took 2.5 instead of 1.5 hours. Have an extra incision as an artifact of complications from a undescended testicle repair that included a "preventative" hernia repair. That surgery was almost 40 years prior.
Then I got fortunate; the results were outstanding. Moreso, when expecting more pain and less length.
The sum total of the wisdom to be gained from this adventure, don't go for implant unless it is last resort. Secondly be prepared for results on the less satisfactory side of the scale, and for significant pain and swelling.
Finally, the ultimate results depend upon your anatomy, the skill and performance of your surgeon, and as important as the other two, the will of God.
Don't do an implant unless you REALLY need one.
Tiffany, for you and your boyfriend, I pray that as healing progresses things will improved significantly. Don't give up and give the operation a chance. Try the product, you might like it.
