Implant Surgery November 29, 2010 at Mayo Clinc in MN

To members of this wonderful forum,

The following is a response from Paul concerning my original post to this group. As he points out in his reply to me, maybe I WILL feel better about my decision if I can hear from some of the members. Feel free to send along any comments you may have, I appreciate all the support this group has shown to others.

Matt,
Would YOU post it to the group? You will get so much support from those guys! You will feel better. but, if you want me to do it for you, that's fine. Just tell me. But I'll bet anything you'll be glad you did. It can all seem so overwhelming at times like this, can't it? Even something as simple as a post can lead to anxiety. You are taking care of yourself. Good for you. Be kind to yourself. No, nothing will be embarrassing. They are all pros and there is nothing they haven't seen.
Take care
Paul

Hey Paul,
Thanks for the e-mail and your questions. I have not yet received the implant, I am scheduled for surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN on November 29. How am I feeling? SCARED! I know I need to do this, especially for my emotional well being, but the thoughts of embarrassment, inadequacy, vulnerability are all lurking in the background. Many have assured me of the professionalism and the caring that I should expect, I just need to get my hands around that rather than the feelings I have described. I have depression and anxiety which I am coping with and I know the ED and Peyronie's add to that burden so I want to look at this as an opportunity to rid myself of alot of "stuff" so that the next years of my life are spent being happy. The next couple of weeks will be tense for me, I am doing my best to tell myself what a difference this procedure will make in my life. I don't look forward to the pain I may experience from the implant but I know I should be able to handle it, and that the pain goes away. Anyway, I am rambling on here. I again thank you for thinking of me, if you have any words of wisdom, please send them my way!

Matt
PS: Please feel free to post this to the group, especially if doing so may help someone else, like me, who just needs a little encouragement!

Matt;
Good luck on your surgery. I live about 100 miles Northwest of Rochester, MN. I have been on assignments in Rochester many times before I retired this year. My wife and I have never had any medical care at the Mayo Clinic, but my in-laws and some of my relatives have, and spoke very highly of the care they received there. I am planning on having implant surgery later this year, but I still am putting things together health wise, and insurance paperwork. Again, take care of yourself, and good luck to you.

George

Hey George,
Thanks for your words of encouragement! I have been to the clinic for some other health issues and am very impressed with they way they do things, especially the respect they have for us as indivduals as well as patients. I know that as the day gets closer, I will be apprehensive but I need to do this for me, and I want (and need) to reclaim intimacy with my spouse. She supports me in my decision. I will keep the group posted as I continue on my path to expected healing. Thanks again

Good luck to you on your upcoming implant. I will have an implant in 9 days (Nov 17th) by Dr. Milam at Vanderbilt. I am both excited and nervous. I just feel I will end up a lot smaller...in length and girth. I know it is the right decision for me......but it is surgery. I have had several surgeries. Was hoping to never have another.....but I chose to have the implant anyway. The wonderful guys on this site have been very encouraging...transparent, and up front. Because of them I made this tough decision. Best wishes my friend.

Genome,
I want to congratulate you on making a difficult decsion to have the implant surgery. This is a procedure that no one blindly goes into and I commend you for taking that barave first step. Your choice of surgeons is, according to all I have read, an excellent one. Dr. Milam seems to be on OUR side and cares enough to provide the best outcome for his patients. I know that if I didn't have the Mayo Clinic 85 miles away from me in MN, I would have made the journey to see this gifted and compassionate man. I wish you nothing but success with your surgery, and peace within yourself for the decision you have made. As all that I have spoken with on this site have indicated, it is the best thing they ever did for themselves. I know it is the right decision for me, and for you as well. God speed!

Hi Matt,
Good luck on your surgery on the 29th.
The surgery is simple and easy. You will be a little sore ,black and blue and some swelling. But in 6 weeks it will be ready to use.
This is one of the best decisions you will ever make.

Thanks for the comment man! (I hate to call you slob!) I have been chatting with alot of guys here and all have been helpful and supportive. I have accepted my decision to go forward and am looking forward to the day when I can once again enjoy intimacy without any worries about performance, etc. I will keep you all posted as I get closer to the date, and will probably need a little moral support. Thanks to this group, it has been a great find for me!

I'm sure you've updated guys in the chatroom, but I thought I'd ask in your thread: How's recovery going?

Matt it looks like y'all are having some major weather up your way. Stay warm and keep us posted on Little Matty when you have a chance.
