Is priapism common with injections

Hi all,

I am a long time Viagra user (15 years or so) and have decided to give Trimix a try since the pills have become unreliable. There are quite a few posts in this forum that talks about priapism, so it got me to wondering if this was a common thing with injections? If so, are they easily managed without having the need to go to the ER?

Make sure to have some pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) on hand before you do your first injection. This is the best home treatment for priapism and it really does work well. Obviously you'll want to try to dial in your perfect dose that gives a strong erection without priapism, but the Sudafed will be there in case you overshoot the dosage.

Thanks. I have read about using sudafed. I have my first injection this week with my urologist. Guess I'll see how it goes.

Priapism is a risk but I wouldn't call it common. Use care with working out your proper dose (titrating) and you'll be fine. The pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) you want is behind the counter. You'll have to ask the pharmacist for it. Get the regular non-time release version. Sudafed makes versions now that don't contain pseudoephedrine. Don't get those. Thank the meth addicts for the confusion. It's restricted because they use it to make meth. You can also ask your doctor about an antidote. Some doctors will prescribe one but I've never used or been prescribed one.

Priapism is not common. You see the posts about it here because there isn’t much reason to post about a routine shot that worked as it should.

Whatever urologist is prescribing you Trimix should (I believe) give you a test injection in the office to teach you how to inject and see the strength of your response. You should leave that appointment with a rough idea of what your starting dose is. You’ll likely have to adjust it up or down as needed.

It’s also good to understand that Trimix (phentolamine, papaverine, and prostaglandins) is just one of many formulations for inducing an erection. If you have a REALLY strong response to a small dose of TriMix you are probably better off using BiMix (containing Phentolamine and Papaverine).

It’s not rocket science, but it is something that should be determined with the help of a good urologist. If your urologist is more of the kidney stone and urinary retention sort with very little knowledge of injectable ED treatment you MIGHT want to seek out one who is more familiar with ED, at least to handle THIS part of your treatment.

There is a LOT of experience here but it is no substitute for the advice of a qualified urologist.

Most of the priapism stories I've read are from either the doctor giving too high a dose and sending you home, or prescribing too high a dose which makes the first solo injection result in priapism.

Many doctors seem to be far too aggressive with trimix dosing. Better to start small and work your way up to what you need, instead of starting too big and having to go to the hospital.

I used Trimix for a few years. Although a real quack, my urologist was very conservative on strength and dosing. It was my third prescription where it really started working. Over time, it took larger and larger doses of increasing strengths, till even the max didn't do the job. But, my point is, with hundreds of Trimix injections, and hundreds of rock hard erections, I never had a case of priapism. In one instance, the hard on linger longer than I wanted it to, since we were meeting friends for dinner. Popped the behind the counter Sudafed, and boner was gone in a short while.

I used Trimix for 12 years and never had a problem. Erections would last about 2 to 2 1/2 hours and then a semi for another hour. I loved the stuff.

Ask your urologist about what formulation of Sudafed is best to use to relieve priapism. Fast-acting would be best, I think.

Sudafed in most strengths does not require a prescription, but is kept behind the Pharmacy counter and purchases of large quantities are looked at with suspicion because it can be used to make street drugs. I used to use it to prevent congestion when SCUBA diving.

Thanks everyone for your reassurances and advice! I am scheduled to do the trimix shot at the doctor's office tomorrow so I will find out soon enough how it goes. I am not too crazy about my urologist. Seems a bit of a quack. I still don't think he properly diagnosed my ED and that was the original purpose of my visit. All he said was something to the degree that for many guys it is psychological. He did a sonogram of my penis and did say I did not have great blood flow. And then he suggested I try shockwave therapy. I did 2 sessions and was not impressed. I had a great morning boner the following morning after each session, but then things went back to "normal" afterwards. I think shockwave therapy is basically just a cash grab. Anyway, onwards to the injection and hope for the best.
