New here and just need answers! I am 64 and in great health. I work out and my part time job keeps me walking a lot. Started having problems with ED about 6 years ago and finally talked to my personal physician about it. He started me off with different pills and nothing seemed to help. I am getting blood flow and an erection just not much of one. Getting size but not very firm at all, making intercourse almost impossible. My physician referred me to an urologist that he has sent others to. The urologist has suggested a pump, injections and energy wave therapy, with emphases on energy therapy. He said that most insurance would not pay for an implant if other resources were not tried first. Is that true about insurance companies? What are others experience with energy wave therapy? The urologist said if it was him that is the very first thing he would try before even considering an implant.

Welcome to FrankTalk. Several people can answer you more directly about the preliminaries to an implant.

Viagra gave me horrific headaches and congestion. Cialis worked for several years, but stopped. I tried the "energy wave" (aka Gainswave or acoustic wave) therapy for about 4 months (16 or so sessions). I don't know if that played a part in the decision to implant me. I also tried the VED, Bathmate, and air pumps to resolve ED. No dice. The VED constriction rings were painful and time limited. I tried Trimix and it caused my penis to burn--I didn't want anybody to touch me, let alone have sex.

Long story short: I was implanted Apr 12 and have had sex a couple of times with my wife (51 years.this month). I'm basically happy with it (when I can find the damn deflate button)...

Medicare and TriCare for Life paid for it (TriCare is a military benefit). When you get on Medicare, be sure to get a good Medicare Advantage Plan that will pay with no problems.

Welcome. I tried wave therapy at two different clinics and it did nothing but make my wallet lighter. Injections are the next step forward for most. Trimix works for me with no side effects. I get an hour long hard erection which is plenty of time to wear the wife out. FYI it does not stop ED from worsening though. I've had to increase my units form 20 to 30 in the past year. From what I can tell men who use Trimix or other injection medications get anywhere from 2 to 10 years of use then its on to an implant. Implants are covered by many insurance carriers. You will need to contact yours to find out if they do.

I would consider a different Uro. I would also consider trying injections. I would also consider using a VED (pump) for therapy if not for sex.

I wouldn't trust a surgeon pushing wave energy/acoustic. It is not required that you fail it to qualify for implant.

I think trial of injection may be needed as it is very effective for some. However if you can't do it for any reason or doesn't work for you implant may get approved by insurance.

I have great results from injecting Trimix and taking 100mg sildenafil (generic Viagra), which reduces the amount of Trimix I need. Injecting is tricky but practice makes perfect. Implant for me? Not on my horizon.
