Does Alprostadil (Mono-Mix) Need to be Refrigerated?

Postby Sean762 » Mon Aug 09, 2021 8:27 pm

Getting conflicting Google information. It sounds like it doesn't need to be refrigerated but needs to be mixed from a powder into a solution which is good for 1 day at around 25°C?

Mayo Clinic's website is contradictory....it says: https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supple ... g-20067404

Store in the refrigerator. Do not freeze.

Alprostadil for Injection while in the powder form can be stored at room temperature (between 15 and 25 °C or 59 and 77 °F) for 3 months. After it is mixed, the solution must be used immediately or within 24 hours and not refrigerated or frozen.

Also, is mixing normal with Alprostadil? Or does it come in a ready to use vial?

If using Edex or Caverject it will come dry and is mixed immediately before use. Refrigeration is not needed. You aren't supposed to save the unused mix after it is reconstituted with the water but if you did, contrary to medical advice, I'd freeze it. Compounded mono-mix that comes as a liquid should be kept frozen, at least that's been my experience. If just refrigerated it's only good for a few days. I always keep mine frozen and have used it successfully when almost a year old. Some guys have found alprostadil in dry form. In that case freezing wouldn't be necessary until reconstituted with water.
