Do Pills Lead to Weak Erections
Do Pills Lead to Weak Erections
is it true that taking pills like, cialis and viagra will lead to weak erections?
Re: Do Pills Lead to Weak Erections
I can't say for sure but I have been on Cialis for a number of years. It has worked up until about 6 months ago. Now erections are very weak and short lived. I don't know if the pills are the problem or something else. I have an appointment tomorrow with a uro so I will probably find out more then.
80 yrs. Married 60 years. Hypertension but under control with meds.
ED since 1995. Viagra then switched to Cialis. Both quit working.
Was on Trimix. Tri-Mix quit working. Implanted by Dr. Novak Grand Rapids, Mi 12/16/2014 AMS LGX

I just asked my uro this a couple weeks ago. At least for me, with nerve healing still going on, he said Cialis would work better as time goes on.
RP in 2012 because of prostate cancer. 100% ED, also some leakage problems.

That is the experience I had. Was on Viagra for three or four years. I started having reactions so my Dr. switched me to Cialis. It worked very well up until about three months ago. Uro said that it was not unusual for the drugs to quit working over time. My erections got to the point that I could not penetrate jello.

Re: Do Pills Lead to Weak Erections
You might want to take three weeks to a month "holiday" from the PDE5 drugs and see what happens.
I found that taking a cialis holiday of that time period helped me. I had good results when I went back on the drug.
I know this is not in the medical literature, but viagras effects were not in the medical literature initially either. Viagra was tested as a blood pressure medicine and after the trials ended, the men demanded to continue the medicine in such force that Pfizer began questioning the men who reported anecdotally what was happening to thier dicks. The rest is history. Pfizer stock sure went up with anecdotal evidence.
PDE5 holidays are anecdotally reported to help on the net for the effectiveness of the drugs. YMMVary.

why do pde5s stop working after some time? and is there a way to force these meds to work in case they stop, maybe through another med?
Re: Do Pills Lead to Weak Erections
I take a lot of meds for my various health issues and have found that many of them have diminished effects over time. Docs continuously watch blood chemistry to see fi we need to change any given pharma therapy. It's not surprising that that Cialis, et all stop working over time.

Remember that if you have organic ED, there is something wrong with you. There are quite a few different organic causes for ED. It may be that your body somehow stops reacting to the pills as effectively as it once did. But its also very possible, and I'd guess more likely, that at some point whatever organic physical problem you have gets worse. In this case the drugs might be just as effective as before in terms of doing what the drugs are designed to do, but as your organic problem gets worse, it needs something more than just the drugs.
There are quite a few of us for whom the drugs never worked, and even injections weren't effective enough. Most of the time organic ED doesn't happen overnight, though sometimes it does. Usually it is a gradual progression of worsening. The pills only help with certain causes of ED and not others, and then only within a range of severity that responds well enough to the drugs.

Re: Do Pills Lead to Weak Erections
I have been taking Viagra for over 15 years to offset the ED caused by diabetes. I started with 25 mg and needed to increase the dosage about every five years until even 100 mg could no longer get the job done. I still use 50 mg in combination with a tight constriction band. My Uro is under the impression that the need to increase the dose is attributable more to the ravages of high blood sugar than to the waning effectiveness of the Viagra.
The linked study concluded that after four years of taking Viagra, 94% of the participants were still satisfied with the effectiveness of Viagra.
