The BEST

Postby paulalan » Tue Aug 30, 2022 5:58 pm

I'm not a super rich guy but I'm going to have to pay for an implant out of pocket either way, so I want the best in the world because it's that important to me. Who do you think the best implant doctor is?

Thanks, Paul

my personal view is Eid or Hakky -- Hakky is said to be around 20K ,Eid around 30k. Just my personal view.
75, used pills, injections -- all lost effectiveness. Titan implanted by Eid in Feb '22.

Welcome to the site Paul. The best is difficult to say. Like who is the best athlete or best musician or many other things. Some of it depends on you and your history. That being said there are many very good doctors in the US and all over the world. And even the top doctors have had men with problems on this site. As with anything there is a risk with this. The really good doctor just have a lot less of them. Eid is a perfectionist and will work to give as close to perfect results as he can. I have not seen any new pushing the envelope stuff from him in a while. Other doctors seem to be trying new techniques. Eid does have a very good system though and very early activation. And one member on this site quoted dr. Eid as saying that the man would fly over many really good doctors to get to him. I am not sure where you are. I think that local care is worth a lot. Follow up is much easier if you are a short drive away than if there is none or you are so far away that you only can have phone follow up. I have always been of the opinion that it is best to check locally first. You may find a really great doctor near you. If not and you need to travel then it comes down to what you decide on as far as travel distance. Recovery is long and the first week or 2 are important to heal. Adding a long flight early in this is not the best i think. Type of device you want or need is also a factor. Many doctors lean or are exclusive to one manufacture. Hakky was a coloplast center of excellence doctor and I think Perito was also. I talked to Hakky and he will do AMS but I could tell he was not happy with it. And Perito was very critical of AMS in the past but recently signed on to a paper for VED use after surgery to prevent size loss and everyone of the small group of hand picked men received an AMS LGX device. So go figure. I have also talked to men who went to doctors that used AMS devices exclusively. Even on men who had curvature that would have had a better outcome with a Titan. But if you have no complications and can either one then that is not a concern. Then you have surgical approach. Eid is penoscrotal and Perito is infra pubic. So something else to consider. Not a big deal with either of those doctors but if you are using someone else penoscrotal gives better access and pump placement but more difficult reservoir placement. infra pubic has a nerve bundle to avoid and is better for reservoir placement but mor difficult for pump placement.

Do some reading on this board. And go over to the General Discussion section to the documents worth reading thread. Lots of good stuff over there. The paper on penis exercise is a good one to start with about VED therapy to reduce size loss. What you are looking for is the best doctor for you. We are all different so this might not be the best one for me or someone else. But get started on VED therapy if you have lost nocturnal erections while you do your surgeon search.

Eid has a web site you can do a lot of reading on. Perito and Hakky do also and there are vids you can watch. Some other names to look into are Levine in Chicago. Clavell and Wang in Huston. Boyd and Karpman on the west coast. And there are other very good doctors that do self pay. Blick in AZ. Kansas in Austin, TX. Brandt in Minnesota. You might want to check out https://surgeo.com/penile-implant They have packages with insurance. Karpman, Boyd, Perito, and Eid are not on that program though. I have heard that Eid does have his own warranty program. Not sure about the other three.

The big thing is to stay away from low volume doctors with 8 week waits for activation and do not do revision surgery. If you contact one of those ask who the doctor sends men to for repairs and replacements and that would be the next place to check. That of course is not a concern with the doctors listed but if none of those are close to you and you do decide local care is best those are the things to look into. And ask either on this site or at the doctors office to talk to a man who received an implant with that doctor. Find out about size loss and recovery.

Good luck to you and after you read a bit ask any questions you have. That is what we are here for. You can even send me a PM and if you'd like to talk on the phone and we can arrange a time.
Injections failed. Implanted 3-21-18 AMS 700 LGX 21 + 1 RTE 100 cc reservoir 6.5" L 5" G Dr. Kramer.

I live in CA and made the trek to NYC for Dr. Eid. He is excellent in every way, including his calm demeanor and very approachable character.
Titan 20cm, Dr. Eid 7/15/22. ED before/after RT (2015), EBRT (2016) & ADT (20 mos.). EBRT & improper penile rehab post-treatment left penile/abdominal scarring, arterial blockage & slight hour-glass shape with Peyronie's disease.

Welcome to the forum, Paul.

It is not who I think the best implant doctor is, but I suggest you find the best implant doctor for YOUR situation (which is different for you from everyone else). Your situation is unique and the one who fits your needs best is not necessarily the best for someone else. For example, do you have any medically unique considerations (e.g. Peyronie's disease) or is travel distance a consideration?

My chosen surgeon, when I asked him about going to the East Coast for Dr Kramer or Dr Eid (I live in Alaska) said, "You will be overflying a lot of good surgeons."

There is a lot to be said for going to a surgeon to whom you can go for pre-op and post-op care and for questions best answered in person. Also, I wondered about flying home from the surgery all bandaged up and partially inflated (doable, but uncomfortable for sure).

Whereabouts are you?

Highly experienced surgeons with good track records who do not have a lot of mentions in this forum are out there. I know of a Dr Garber in the midwest (don't recall exactly where) who worked with my surgeon and is published on the subject of implants. No one has mentioned him here, but I opine that he knows his way around an implant.

I could have travelled to a number of good surgeons, but Dr Shaw figuratively (and literally) fell into my lap when a travel nurse mentioned that he had been recently assigned to our local hospital and "Would you be willng to see him?". He had TAUGHT the procedure! When I interviewed him, he said that if he were in private practice, this would be his specialty. He listened to me and impressed me as caring and dedicated. Dr Eid had written to me, "Find a surgeon in love with his craft." Reasoning that such a surgeon would put the welfare of his patient (and the outcome of the surgery) above all other considerations.

I am pleased with the results I got. I would not have hesitated to travel for surgery, but when staying local was an option, I grabbed it without hesitation.

We all have our personal reasons for sharing the good results. My experience with Levine here in Chicago was, and has remained, absolutely excellent. As I've said here in the past, he's just the consummate, deeply experienced pro who quietly goes about delivering surgically superior results. He performs an enormous # of implants with seemingly little fanfare. He's quiet from a marketing-himself perspective. Doesn't thump his chest or put himself out there much. Just quietly does his shit perfectly.

Who is the best is unanswerable. We've tried sorting doctors in the past. The list always changes around because many of the doctors adjust the focus of their practice.
You need to really spend some time & make a list of your priorities. If you are planning on self pay. That adds a different level to your scrutiny. A very talented surgeon in NYC has a self pay price that is noticeably higher than most others. But you need to remember that it costs more for him to do business in NYC than in many other cities. Many think he is worth every penny he charges. For me, he is almost the whole country away. For that travel, I found a pretty good local uro.
As others have implied. I believe the doctors can be put in levels. Ease of making an appointment & traveling to his office can be a burden as to time/cost.
It seems that most very competent doctors install 50 to 75 implants per year. Some do even more. 150 per year isn't uncommon, although I think a few doctors "round up" their number of sugeries.
Any that practice the "one touch" surgical process will be in the lower infection ratings.
A few years ago they came out with "agressive sizing" for determining implant size. I think all the better ones practice that now.
The "Perito exercise" is new. It helps restore length. Easy to do at home. Basically just inflate & crank you penis around in all directions. Doing this helps break the adhesion between the implant & your tunica. Adhesions can keep your penis from getting the full benefit of cycling.
On cycling. This all falls to your responsibility. Be prepared to inflate to max for 15-20 minutes twice a day. Try adding a few partial pumps a couple of times while inflated. Doing this for the entire first year isn't unusual. Some men cycle for 18 months.
Surf YouTube. See if your proposed doctor has good videos posted. Does he attend or even narrate conferences for other uros?
In your intial interview. Watch for signs that he it truly interested in you regaining as much of your penis back as possible.
WARNING: you won't wake up in recovery with a new magnificent huge penis. It can take up to a year of work on your part to get all your tissue stretched by your new cylinders. Don't burn up the phone to your doctor accusing him of shorting you. If he is good he knows you'll be alright. Some doctors are hard to get ahold of the first month because men can freak out. Swelling & penis contracture can make you look really small initally.
In 2013 I had a circumcision. The amount that your penis can retract from the trauma of surgery is shocking.
Sorry for the long post. Good luck in your search for a doctor.

Best?

There are a number of excellent surgeons that don’t get mentioned often or at all on this site.

Find someone local, setup an appointment, see how you feel about the surgeon, team and procedure.

Personally, I went with a local Doc. There are lots of reasons to stay local vs travel.

I used Dr Tajkarimi. In addition to being a great surgeon, he’s cutting edge, an inventor and has a great team.

The biggest issue was fear…this is my dick…once I got over that, everything was smooth sailing
Implanted 5.25.21 Coldplast, 24cm. Dr Tajkarimi.

The best ones are: Eid, Hakky, Clavell
Hard flaccid syndrome since 2019. Trying to get better with conservative treatments but an implant is on my radar
