A question for you men....one of the decisions the uro says I need to make is where the incision is. Either infrapubic or penoscrotal. I have read and listened to "experts" all say why they prefer one over the other. Now what thoughts to you guys who've had IPP surgery have and where was your incision? I will be having an AMS 700LGX unit installed. Any thoughts or suggestions?

64 years old. Struggling with ED for 15 years. Had AMS MS 700LGX implanted Tuesday, 07/09/13. New prosthesis implanted on Tuesday, 08/05/13 due to infection. Both implant surgeries done by Dr. Desiderio Avila Jr., Ironwood Urology, Phoenix, AZ.

I would live the choice of incision to the urologists best opinion. He knows whar he is comfortable with and should have an idea of which is best with your anatomy.
Peno-scrotal (horizontal) with alternate reservoir placement and addition incision. Healed fast and well. Incision location and reservoir location determined by earlier surgeries, hernia repair and radical prostatectomy (retro-pubic).

Thanks guys for all your comments. Tomorrow morning I meet with my urologist to complete testing and paperwork to submit to insurance.
I continue to read your discussions on how much length is lost after surgery and how much is regained. It sounds like I should expect to lose no more than 1/2 inch. I will let you know what my urology says.

Re: First time for me
Friends,
As I mentioned above, my regular urologist has recommended that I see his practice partner. Although he was trained by Dr. Eid in New York, he now focuses most of this time working with robotic surgery and cancer patients and has been only doing 5-10 implants per year. So today I went to his practice partner who specializes in implant surgery. I discovered that not only did my original urologist train under Dr. Eid, my new specialist was classmates and trained with Dr. Karpman of Mountain View, California. I feel very lucky indeed for having this much expertise surround me during this decision making time. My new uro and I have agreed that an implant prosthesis is indeed the correct way to go so we submitted “paperwork” to my insurance company (Aetna Open Access). Now it is just a waiting period to see how my insurance responds. If costs are reasonable, I’ll go ahead and schedule the procedure as soon as the doctor has an opening. Don’t know what I’ll do or how I’ll feel if the information comes back that insurance will participate only on a limited basis and I’ll be expected to cover most of the costs. I simply can’t afford that. So we wait. Should know within two weeks what is in my future. And I am Not a patient person, especially when it comes to hopefully being able to move ahead with new excitement to rekindle my sexual abilities and redevelop the wonderful sexual relationship my wife and I had before ED.
