My Penile Doppler Ultrasound Test

I went to a urologist today for a penile doppler ultrasound test which was scheduled about a month ago.

This experience wasn’t what I expected. Told the ultrasound tech lady that I didn’t want to wait a month for this appointment doing nothing for my ED so, in the meantime I got a Trimix RX elsewhere. I wanted to talk with the doctor about the necessity of the test given I’ve used Trimix successfully and experienced a rock hard erection for 3+ hours. She said the doctor uses Bimix for the test because it’s not as strong as Trimix and they don’t want patients leaving the office with a prolonged erection.

Spoke with the doctor and he told me that Trimix is really strong and will produce an erection even with severe ED - so the fact that I got a super erection for 3 hours doesn’t really say anything about my problem. Told him I’ve tried a maximum of 10 units which was really intense and gave me a rock hard erection for about 3.5 hours. Told him it made my dick ache and made it difficult for me to climax. He said 10 units was too much. He also said if I had no physical ED issues, then the Trimix would have lasted longer than that and would have likely created a priapism. Said the doppler test was up to me. I elected to stay and have the test done.

He asked if Viagra worked for me and I told him only sometimes, which is why I elected to get a Trimix prescription. He said the fact that Viagra doesn’t work for me indicates some kind of physical issue. I told him I knew that performance anxiety was a component and he said yes that could be a part of it.

He injected me with a small amount of Bimix and gave me a porn magazine to “stimulate my brain” and left the room. I was surprised that I didn’t get a full erection. It felt just like a Trimix miss. Didn’t even get a hard-on while stimulating myself manually but the whole thing felt weird trying to get a boner by myself in a doctor’s office.

The ultrasound tech said the doctor injects a very small amount to ensure I can leave the office without an erection, which I was able to do (although they gave me a 100 unit syringe full of Phenylephrine in case my erection persisted). The Bimix was totally weak sauce.

The ultrasound tech came in and did the doppler ultrasound test on my semi-erect dick. Told her I was surprised she was conducting the test without inducing a strong erection and she said she was “getting what she needed” from the test. Said she was looking for veinous leaks, plaque, etc. but wouldn’t say anything about what she was seeing as that was for the doctor to discuss with me on my follow-up visit.

Bottom line is I was expecting the test to require a strong rock hard erection and they did the doppler ultrasound with a semi-erection that wouldn’t have been solid enough for penetration. We’ll see what they say in our next appointment along with discussing my hormonal imbalance which I was surprised he wouldn’t discuss today. Maybe he wants to gather all the data points before discussing any kind of diagnosis or treatment plan.

For those here who have had a penile doppler ultrasound test, did they induce a raging boner or is what I experienced with "test on semi-erect penis" to be expected? Doesn’t make sense to me to do this test without a boner suitable for PIV sex but they insisted they got the data they needed.

My experience was much the same. The injection only gave me a chubby, but the doctor who did my test said it was sufficient. As he was moving the wand up and down my penis, he showed me on the screen, in color how my veinous leak was happening. He also showed me the Peyronie's plaque mass. So, I guess a raging boner isn't required.

My Doppler was done also this way. I only got maybe 60% hard with the medication. They got what they needed to see. In my case they still can not tell me why I have ED. Very disappointed after years of ED and finally getting a DR. To do a Doppler a few months ago.

Thanks for the responses. I'm surprised but it's good to know my experience isn't unusual or handled incorrectly. Very curious to know what they find. I expect they will tell me nothing is physically wrong with me. We'll see...

My experience was, the technician warned me I might get a prolonged erection, then after the injection, said it would take 10 minutes to get an erection, then said 20, then at the 30 minute mark said another 10 minutes, then the technician went quiet.

Sounds similar to my experience, although I think the tech was looking for a solid erection. She came in the room twice looking at my crotch after doc injected me, both times "A few more minutes". Finally went in with a chubby and had the test done. All I heard about it was doc said blood was moving out faster than coming in.
The strange part was the tech left me like 10 towels to clean up. She took off, said she'd be back in 10 minutes to take me to doc. When I walked out the door in under two minutes, she seemed surprised I was so quick. Got the feeling she thought I would masturbate that chubby.

Yeah, when the tech left the room, it wasn't clear to me if they expected me to whack off with the magazines that were laid out to get rid of the chubby. Didn't do that. Doctor's office was not very conducive to getting horny. I just really wanted to leave so that's what I did.

My Doppler was interesting! Came in for the exam and taken an exam room by one of the non nurse staff members and told to take off my clothes, put on gown and lay on the table. The 30 something year old gorgeous blonde female RN came in with a 20 something gorgeous brunette female nursing student. She said “I’m going to inject your penis for the ultrasound exam, I’m training this nursing student. Do you mind if she observes?”
I said that’s fine. In the old days before ED I would have had an erection I could drive nails with just looking at these two! The RN said I’m going to pull back you sheet and gown and give you the injection. She told the student, take the head of the penis and pull the penis straight up. Clean area at the base with alcohol swab before injecting. Then insert the needle at the base of penis. To verify proper placement you should pull back plunger on syringe and you should get a blood return because needle is in the cavernosum. Then inject.
The student was very attentive and watching closely! The RN covered me up and said I should have an erection in 10 to 15 minutes and she would be back to take me to the ultrasound room and technologist. 10 minutes pass, nice chubby bUt not hard. RN sticks her head in door and asked if it was ready. No, not yet. She said she would be back in another 10 minutes then. RN and student knock and come in….is it ready! No, not really just very full. Let’s take a look. She pulls back sheet and gown. My penis is laying pointed to my stomach very full. She said that’s not hard? No, it’s not. Let me palpate it as she squeezed my shaft. No she says not very hard just a lot fuller than it was before injection. Let’s go to ultrasound room anyway. Ok.
Walk to the exam room with partial tent in front of gown.
Ultrasound technologist….yes a 30 something gorgeous lady! My lucky day! I lay on the table and tell her my penis isn’t hard just full. Oh she says, ok. Let’s get started anyway. I can see the flow well enough. She said she warmed the ultrasound gel and she was going to hold the head of my penis out straight for the whole exam. She put on exam gloves and gasp the head pulling my shaft tightly. She rubbed the gelled ultrasound transducer up and down my shaft watching the Doppler imaging screen. I began getting a little bit harder with this attention! But still not fully erect. When the tech finished exam she handed me a couple of small towels and said I could clean off the gel and whatever I needed to do. She would be back in 15 minutes. Oh yes I wanted to get off even with only a nice chubby. But it just wasn’t the best setting for sure. I got dressed and waited for doctor. Yes ultrasound confirmed VL…..
