I had low anterior resection with TME 2013-04-29 for a rectal carcinoma 10 cm up. I have no problems with libido, erection or orgasm. However there is retrograde ejaculation into the bladder. Nothing comes out of the penis at orgasm. That is a major problem since we are trying to make babies. My sperm quality was good before operation. I am 45 years old, otherwise healthy.
I have heard that retrograde ejaculation usually reverses spontaneously, but that it can take a long time. Does anyone here have any experience with that? How long did it take?
Duloxetine (Yentreve) is recommended for retrograde ejaculation. However that made me completely anorgasmic, which is a common side effect of duloxetine. I tried phenylpropanolamine in high dose (50mg *6). That gave a few drops of semen, nothing more. After that I tried reboxetine (edronax), which initially gave a few more drops of semen. However if I increase the dose of reboxetine it also makes me anorgasmic.
Does anyone have any experience of drugs to reverse retrograde ejaculation?

Re: Retrograde ejaculation after rectal surgery
I have retrograde ejaculation too... resulting from either surgery on ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm, or some urinary infections after that surgery. Another cause may be 'old age'.
My urologist states that semen can be extracted from your urine and used for fertilization.
Just saying, but you may want to inquire about that .

Re: Retrograde ejaculation after rectal surgery
How long has it been since your surgery? The trauma of such work can cause both ED and retrograde ejaculation. Sometimes they reverse themselves over time. Dr. Paul Turek is an internationally known expert in male fertility and is located in San Francisco. He's a really great doctor and person. YOu might want to go onto jpouch.org which has foums on rectal surgery. There is a very active member named Jan Dollar who is a retired nurse and a wealth of knowledge and calm. Good luck.

I am sixty-six years of age and dealing with gradually worsening ED for twenty years. At sixty-three I wanted something that worked reliably. I got an AMS 700 LGX implant in 6/25/13. I am entirely pleased with the outcome. My surgeon was Dr. Karpman.
Re: Retrograde ejaculation after rectal surgery
My surgery was 5 weeks and 5 days ago. My surgeon told me to wait a few months for the retrograde ejaculation to reverse spontaneously before I freak out completely.
Has anybody here had a retrograde ejaculation that reversed spontaneously after surgery? How long did it take?
Has anyone had surgery for retrograde ejaculation? Transurethral injections of collagen (or something similar) into the internal sphincter)?
I have been trying various medications, but it does not work well. Only a few drops of semen.
I know sperm can be retrieved from urine after ejaculation, but it is a BIG hassle. For many reasons it is essential for me to be naturally fertile. I am prepared to do ANYTHING to get my normal ejaculation back.

Your surgery was recent so you probably need to wait before doing anything that might make things worse.
