What to tell people?
Re: What to tell people?
One more question. What is the best underwear to wear when leaving the hospital?
75 years old. Was on Viagra and then Cialis but got fed up with the side effects. Switched to Tri-Mix 3 years ago but had increasingly reduce effect. Finally implanted 1/19/2023. Always looking for advice. Live in Illinois.
Re: What to tell people?
The hospital will probably give you a jock strap to wear home. You'll be covered with bandages, so loose boxers might be best. If you don't get a jock strap, be prepared with some briefs. Sweatpants are the most comfortable thing you'll wear for a while. I found boxer briefs to be the most comfortable later. Good support without being too constrictive.
I told my kids I had a cyst on a testicle that needed surgical removal. No questions asked after that. However, I had to tell my oldest son about it when we flew to UK together. I knew the security scanner would detect it.

I thought about this question a lot recently as my surgery date is less than a month away. I considered the hernia excuse but I’m going with something that better fits my personal situation.
My closer friends and family know I had Prostate Surgery followed by salvation radiation treatments. However my wife and I have never discussed the resulting ED problems with any of them. So if questioned our response will be; I had a follow up surgery to address some fibrosis & scar tissue that developed after the prostrate cancer treatments. That’s being truthful because I do have some fibrosis and scarring from Trimix injections. We’re just not sharing the details that the scarring was in my penis and the surgery included an implant installation. We’ll probably add that it was nothing serious and was a routine outpatient surgery that just needed to be done sometime. Let them assume whatever and I expect that should satisfy any inquiring minds.

I told my oldest son. He was with me at RP. He also has a PSA under surveillance. Not a long discussion just wanted him to be informed on what might be ahead. My wife also knows.

Hi Steve5231.
I have my surgery scheduled for three days after yours (10/24). I see you are in Illinois also. I am using Dr. Laurence Levine. Who is your surgeon?
I told my employer, family and friends that I was having hernia repair surgery. Similar location in the body and something that is a serious enough surgery to explain my time out, but (unless an emergency surgery) not life threatening enough for tremendous concern. I am a relatively young and recent widower so my father (who will take me to and from the surgery and whose house I will stay at for a couple of days post-op) knows the truth. My children and one close friends does as well.

Re: What to tell people?
I’ve told everyone I’m getting a bionic penis. Then I make the sound effect noise when Steve Austin did something bionic and then start humming the intro music to the Six Million Dollar Man.
Actually no, I’ve just made vague references at work to some prostate procedure and everyone plugs their ears. As to family I’m not telling anyone. I consider it to be between my wife and myself and it’s about our marriage as much as anything.
Looking forward to surgery day Nov 1.

I haven't put up a billboard yet, but I did tell my friends and close family that I got an implant.
Some of them think it's funny, but they don't know how it is to still be sexually active at our age.
I actually don't give a shit what anyone thinks.
My son just doesn't want to know anything about it.

I said I had to get surgery on a herniated disc. Everyone just pitied me afterwards and the recovery time and slightly limp the first week was understood by all.

Re: What to tell people?
My opinion,
I believe that we do not owe anyone an explanation for something that is our intimacy. Perhaps we have to evaluate some feeling of guilt, for something that we are mishandling.
We cannot have a feeling of guilt for trying to improve our lives. And have the courage to do it.
There are people with whom we will have to notify that we will be absent for as long as necessary, (such as our employer) but without further detail.
To the nosy and annoying brothers-in-law and the curious who want details, excuses for us not to get into arguments and explanations. (hernias, narrowing of the urethra, prostate or bladder problems, etc).
To your relatives, partners and closest friends, whatever you consider, depending on the degree of relationship.
How many secrets will those curious keep?
Are we sure they tell us everything?
There is no need to feel guilty or obliged to tell
Regards

Exactly! I will have to tell my boss because I have to request off work and it will be on the paperwork for short term disability.
With that being said, my boss is female and the office staff is all female and life-long friends. I'm sure they will all know by the end of the work day, and being in a small rural town in TN, the entire community will know by the end of the week. *sigh*
