This journal is important, thank you for taking the time to write about your experience.

Thanks I do feel the same that Dr. Cordon and all other young doctors who are giving good results should be mentioned here on FT. I was talking to Dr. Billy today and told him about me writing this journal. He was thankful and said I don’t do much social media because I don’t have much time. I did advise him to figure out time and start making videos for youtube.

I think a summary sheet of all high volume surgeons can be added as a separate section with details about their methods and protocols.

I feel the best surgeon is one with whom you can connect. I felt that with Dr. Eid but since he went on leave I went on his recommendation and found Dr. Billy who is also equally nice and empathetic.

I like the idea of a high volume surgeon list. Maybe something shows all doctors at different levels of implant per year, like 200+, 150-200, 100-150, ect or whatever makes sense. There could be other indicators - for example, I think coloplast gives certain surgeons a recognition of excellence or something for certain performance metrices (aka how much money they make for coloplast, aka volume).

This would ideally help new comers narrow their search down quickly, instead of trying to piece together a hoard of anecdotes to figure out who is who. The anecdotes are still highly critical for decision making (I show Eid originally because of anecdotes).
Titan OTR. Dr. Hakky - successful surgery and very happy with outcome.
My advice: choose a world-class surgeon and make yourself the healthiest you can.

Day 2

The day has been very difficult for me. Woke up at 4:30 Am with pain everywhere in scrotum, shaft and reservoir. The nurse gave me oxycodone (my 3rd since beginning)

The whole of urology unit almost 8-10 doctors came to check on me. I think they were junior doctors under Dr. Cordon. Also, 2 other urologist lady doctors came and removed my bandage and also the catheter. The burning sensation on removing catheter was very sharp.

The penis was bent as it was tightly packed in bandage. I can feel the cylinder in the shaft and it remains bent if i apply some force. I think that is because I am partial inflated.

Surprisingly I have zero swelling in the scrotum. However I am far from pain free. Not sure the nerve block works in my case.

I had great difficulty later in peeing and spent a lot of time in the bathroom. Finally I could pee and they agreed to discharge me. But by this time I had a bad constipation. The pain of constipation was actually worse than the shaft pain. It took me a while to get over it and even now I am like 60-70% clear of constipation. I took stool softener, Milk of Magnesia but nothing worked. Finally I used Dulcolax suppository and it worked. I am so relieved.

But this means that I am not going back to Oxycodone. I had asked the doctor for a different pain killer and he has prescribed me Keterolac 10 mg. As I write this, I just took my first Keterolac tablet and hope it will work. Tylenol has not been working in my case. I ate it 2 times since surgery.

Overall, the pain in shaft is high and I am having difficulty in keeping it straight. Just bought Tommy John Boxers from Target and will pick them up in some time. Hopefully they will be more comfortable.

I still have trouble walking for long time. So taking it easy.

I did have my wtf have I done moment when the constipation was too hard to handle but my brother who is with me kept motivating me saying that constipation pain should not be a big worry. He was right.

To sum up, I feel that Dr. Eid’s protocol of having the catheter on for 2 days after surgery is the right approach. In my case the catheter was removed after surgery but had to be reinserted which caused a lot of urethral pain.

It is very obvious that everyone recovers differently as I have seen floridaspeedo hardly had any pain after nerve block. That is certainly not the case with me. But I have less/no swelling and my incision was fine as told by doctor.

I hope that Day 3 will be better than day 2. I am hoping I can control my pain so that the flight on Day 4 can be done without much issues.

PS- I am writing this journal without any specific format. I write whatever is coming to my mind. I hope it will still be useful for those who will read it.

I will prepare a template and post it here. Hopefully we can work with the admin and try ti get such a list. Right now I can think of fields like number if surgeries, type of incision, activation timeframe, nerve block, catheter, drain, inflated/deflated on discharge etc.

Day 3-
Till afternoon:

I slept well last night. I woke up a few times to pee. Peeing takes time as it comes out slowly.

I had eaten Keterolac 10mg at around 10 Pm and had gone to bed immediately after. I woke up to pee around 12:30-1 Am and had very little pain. In fact I felt very relaxed and this was one of the best I had slept since surgery. After that I slept again but had lots of water so had to wake up again to pee. Around 4 Am when I woke up I had pain again and the scrotum had also swollen. So I had another Keterolac and slept.

I finally woke up around 7 Am but had minimal pain. But scrotum was swollen so I iced it. I have been icing it a lot today and it feels better now.

Yes constipation was a huge issue yesterday but I feel better today. As long as I can manage constipation along with pain medication I am happy to eat them.

One mistake I did which shows my lack of planning was that I did not buy special underwears for post surgery. I read on FT about Seperatec but would have been able to receive them before I fly. But I was lucky to find Thomas John underwear with a separate pouch to place the shaft upwards. These I bought from Target. So I recommend everyone to buy the underwear which suits you. The athletic supporter I got from hospital or the one I had previously bought is too tight and useless.

Rest I plan to take an afternoon nap now and hope to wake up pain free. Will keep updating the journal in evening. Hopefully there will be only positive progress.

This is your journal and your experience, and it will be helpful to many others as the journals I read before my surgery were very helpful to me.

A few points:
I had no catheter placed before or after surgery. I also had an extra incision below the glans to clear out unexpected scar tissue in my corpora that wouldn't dilate from the scrotal incision. I knew I was going to have to pee to be released from the surgery center, so when they asked me if I needed to pee before surgery I told them I didn't (I probably could have, but wanted to 'save' it for after surgery) There is clearly an implant surgery approach that does not require painful catheters, I looked for a surgeon that didn't put one in as a matter of course. If I had not been able to pee after surgery, then one would have been put in to relieve me. I'm happy to say I damn near filled that bottle when it meant I could leave!

I also had no drain placed, another thing I confirmed with my surgeon before choosing him. Drains require removal, either by me or by the medical staff. No thanks.

I followed my doctor's orders (and maybe yours too) and applied a fleet enema the morning of surgery. Results were mixed, I guess it worked a bit. I never had any issues with constipation, never needed to use the 2nd bottle from the 2-pack. #2 has not been an issue whatsoever. I also have never taken anything more than Tylenol and Advil.

I hope those Tommy John underwear work better for you than for me. Although the pocket puts the head of your penis straight up, the fabric is not strong enough to keep it there. My penis just ends up falling back over and pointing out. I wore them once for a few minutes. It looks like the PERFECT answer on paper, but not in application.

As for your surgeon list, I think it's a bit dangerous for users of this forum to start compiling a list that would look like we know what we're talking about. Maybe nothing more than a list of names and locations would be best. There are so many factors that we can't know, and each one of us only has our own experience to refer to. I don't think it's a bad thing that men interested in IPP have to spend hours and hours wading through FT to form their opinion on surgeons. Those hours were invaluable to me, I learned the pros and cons and made lists of questions I didn't even know I needed to ask of my surgeon prior to implantation. Also, as you point out, some surgeons could be "Double Dog Diamond" award winners from one manufacturer, based on units implanted or some such economic barometer. That doesn't say anything about the outcomes for the patient, or the level of comfort along the way. The surgeon I chose uses both Coloplast and AMS, since he seems to move between products depending on what's best for his patient, maybe he hasn't reached "Double Dog Diamond" status from one manufacturer. I know for a fact he implanted a Titan the same day he implanted me with an AMS, and he explained to me why he recommended AMS and which model to me based on my particular physiology. One implant is considerably more expensive than the other, cost to the surgeon (and ultimate profit) which MAY be a factor in why some surgeons focus on one over the other.

Let's face it, probably less than 1% of men getting an implant ever stumble on FT. Most men go to their insurance urologist, get the pep talk and schedule the surgery. We're a fart in the wind here. FT is populated by the researchers and investigators, we're the ones that took it upon ourselves to find out more, see what other people felt, read journals and form our own opinions.

I laid flat on my back nearly 40 hours post surgery with ice constantly on my balls and shaft. I had no bruising, minimal pain that Tylenol addressed. The ice numbed any pain that could have been there, I don't know... I didn't feel it. My doctor did not tell me to do this, I read this from others on FT that had very easy recoveries. I figured there is no downside to doing this, but I can't get back those first 48 hours and ice later. You're not going to cause any issues by icing. Either you do it in the first 48 or the window is missed and swelling has taken hold. I wonder if doctors don't tell patients to do this because it's a hassle and inconvenience, and they'd just rather you take a pain pill and not ask you to stay on your back for a couple days.

As for a jock, I too found them too tight and would rub on the top of my glans, even with a baby sock on it. I learned that the trick is to move the jock waistband down lower on my hips so that the 3" waistband runs across the shaft of my penis, pinning it to my abdomen, rather than try to have the waistband high on my belly above my penis. When it's high, it slowly rides down and pushes on the head. Across the middle of the shaft is the answer for me. During the day I wear loose sweats and let him hang naturally, only pointing him up when I have to stand up and see other people, but at night I wear the jock and pin him straight up all night. I'm cognizant of wanting the best up angle I can get when all the scar tissue has formed, but I'm not obsessed by it.

I don't mean to hijack your thread, you're doing great and every day will be better. I appreciate opening FT and seeing replies and conversation, hopefully this helps take your mind off of other things as you recuperate.

Hi Jage64, we only get richer by reading various opinions and experiences. I am documenting my journey with my observations and experience. I agree that one cannot have the same experience as everyone’s anatomy is different.
I agree with you that reading multiple journals is important for someone to figure out what path one can take.

My experience with catheter is totally different from yours and I just wrote what I faced and feltZ also, since I keep Dr. Eid as a benchmark I shared his approach.

For constipation, even for me what worked was dulcolax laxative suppository. Perhaps I should have tried to earlier but that will be my go to approach if it were to happen again. I just might use one again in evening today.

I am not sure how much my journal will benefit others but if it can be useful to even one person, I think it will be worth it. Also, I am writing it because I feel like sharing what I have gone through. I am an emotional person who has suffered a hell lot due to this monster called ED and have even contemplated suicide at times. A long journey full of trauma and shame has been endured. I am not saying this to get any sympathy but we all have our stories. I am choosing to share mine and I hope someone will benefit :)

this forum seems to be many things to many people.

1. For the curious, and the ones suffering from ED, it is a place to obtain knowledge.

2. For those of us who actually experience having an implant, it is a place for support. Those of us who have suffered through ED, and have undergone the implant journey understand what a lonely experience it can be in a man’s life. To have the support of others, genuine, compassionate, and understanding support is invaluable. Meant a lot to me for sure.

3. It is cathartic. To be able to share one starts in an open forum like this is in itself it’s own form of therapy. Keeping the frank talk in franktalk is a good thing. No judgement.

4. finally, I think one of the greatest purposes it serves is to be a rallying place for those who are “on the other side“ and have experienced everything from the pre-implant anxiety, through the implant, surgery and recovery, and to finally our experience in a vibrant and colorful sex life. It’s good to be in a place where guys share each other’s joy, and at the same time that joy creates great hope, and inspiration for others.

Very well said ThailandBound!

I iced my shaft and scrotum today but swelling still seems to be on high side. The pain is back and I am trying to control it with pain meds. Tomorrow I have to take the flight back to Newark. Ideally I would have liked to wait another day here. But now have no choice. I just hope to reach soon and then rest completely for days to come.

Will tell tomorrow how the plane journey goes.
