peyronie's and pain DR says implant is the way to go

I am 50 years old with Peronei's diagnosed over 3 years ago with scaring and a 45 degree bend to the left and 25 degree bend up. Reason was previous injury 19 years ago. Tried Vitamin E, Potaba, and penis extender as recommend by Urologist. The stretcher did help reduce angle some. Now I am having pain during foreplay and intercourse, and my wife is also having pain during intercourse. We have tried different positions. I am scheduled for an Implant September 19th 2013 at Cleveland Clinic. The doctor is planning to use an AMS 700 unsure of model with modeling to break up scaring. I have some loss of sensation and hinging at two spots. I have not notice loss of length. I am able to achieve and keep an erection with a lot of stimulus and can have intercourse. I am agreeing to have the implant to try to stop the pain for my wife and myself. I am worried that the operation may not achieve the straightening due to the large scaring I have. If the curve is not corrected then will the surgery reduce the pain. I will admit the thought of the surgery itself scares me. I have already had a double hydrocele repair and a vasectomy. I believe the left testicle did not heal properly and is somewhat attached to the scrotum. My wife has been great through all of this. Any thoughts any of you have will be appreciated.

Most likely you will get the AMS 700 CX (controlled expansion - girth only - cylinder girths are 12mm, inflate to 18mm ) or in the more severe cases AMS 700CXM cylinders are 9.5 mm and inflate to 14.2 mm. The "CX" models are made of stiffer material and should straighten out most if not all of your curves (when pumped up)

The general "rule-of-thumb" is to pull your flaccid penis straight out, as far as possible ... now look down, that is about the length size you will get from an erect Implant.

Don't worry ... everyone is anxious before surgery. I was back in the gym in 2 weeks and into the pool in 3 ... although I'm a fast healer. Get some stool softener, ice packs (for several days - 1 week) and lots of Ibuprofen to reduce swelling. I would also recommend an inflatable donut cushion ... I still use mine.

Usually after 6 weeks your URO will give you the Ok for a test run ... gives you something to look forward to! Keep us posted on your progress ...

Just learned from the insurance company they will not approve surgery due to an ED clause. I am going to get the doctor to appeal the ruling on grounds of peronei's treatment being the need for the implant, not ED. I will not be able to afford the surgery without insurance approval. I guess pain during intercourse may be a way of life for a while.

Odd that they would schedule you for surgery without an Insurance approval first? There are a few of these places that provide financing ... cash price is about 12,000.Keep using the stretcher in the mean time ...

The scheduled the surgery saying that if the insurance would not pay for the procedure payment plans were available. The clinic called and said that they had given the insurance company all of the information that was available. If I still wanted the procedure then I would have to appeal the insurance companies denial of service. I went to the insurance companies office today and appealed the denial on the basis of the problem being pain and not the ability of achieving an erection. We'll see how it goes as I am running out of time to cancel the procedure.

I received the insurance companies reply to my appeal. The have denied my appeal, so I have called and cancelled my surgery today. I am not sure where to go from here.

The penile implant surgery is indicated for peyronie´s only when you also have ED. That is not your case. There are specific surgeries for peyronie´s like plication, plaque treatment with/without grafting, that should resolve your problem. Don´t desesperate, there are always ways to go.
