Dr. Perito

Postby Epsilon » Sat Oct 26, 2013 11:27 am

Considering Dr. Perito. His procedure (15 minutes), No Foley, and other factors have me intrigued. He seems to have streamlined and quickened the procedure. Can anyone comment? Concerned about initial pain immediately following surgery, how soon can one travel (fly) home.

I know that rumors are cheap thru Internet....with that said, I have read that Perito has had some infection issures....not to say others have not, but a speedy procedure might not necessarily be better if complicated with infection due to quick in and out. I feel if I am "knocked out" then surgeon can take time needed to do a more perfect job. I'll sleep through it.

Agree about pain, concerns me also. I have been reading franklambe's reports with interest and I have had contact with someone who used Morey and had other issues to be delt with in surgery which took a incision along shaft and he suggested pain to not be to bad. Pain med got to be your friend.

When I was trying to get an appointment with Dr Milam in Nashville, I, too, was wondering about air travel home. With the change to Morey, I have eliminated the air travel as he will be only 3 hours away. Good luck.

I am on day#3 and pain is at a 4 or 5 on a scale from 1-10 with 10 being the worst. I don't see how anybody can get a lower pain scale than that at day#3.

I agree with Billylee in that speed may be impressive, but who cares how fast your surgeon is if he messes something up or misses something by doing it too quickly. I asked my surgeon/Uro about Perito and he said he's good.

My Uro told me during my consult that he likes to take his time to measure & remeasure. To try and not cause extra trauma by ramming tools in & out. To really keep from cross contamination by doing everything methodically.

My first and biggest concern was pain. I have a very low threshold for pain. Believe me..... Your sore and hurt the first day, but it was NOWHERE close to what I thought it would be. Take the pain meds to get comfortable and ice, ice, ice!!!! I had a scrotal incision done. If I had to deal with a second incision above the base of my penis I don't think I would be doing well. My unit is the AMS700MS 3 piece model. He put the resivoir in through the same incision.

Additionally. Find a good surgeon. It doesn't have to be a high volume one, but one that does it in a regular basis. My Uro does 5-8 a month for the past 10 years. He's the chief of urology at his hospital. He takes prostates out on a regular basis and does other complicated surgeries. He said implants are not very complicated and he likes doing them because it differs from the other robotic surgeries and he likes helping men who are missing this part of their life. He takes his time to make sure all is right as if it was his penis he was working on. It was reassuring to me and made sense to me.

Hope this helps you out. This website has been a blessing to me and members have been extremely open & helpful.

Since scheduling travel is a concern, when you leave the hospital the day following surgery, how did you feel at that point (24 hours after)? Was the pain managable with over the counter tylenol for example? Could you take a 3 hour flight on day 2 or day 3? I've looked at testimonials on the web saying pain was insignificant but I think the procedure used by the surgeon has a lot to do with this. That's why the Perito technique seems to have promise because the incision is above the penis and you're ready for sex after four weeks. It is explained on: peritourology.com (testimonials)

With tramadol, my recent knee replacement pain I believe was no worse than a 2. I couldn't beleive how pain free it was.

Thanks for your efforts to document your experience day by day. Very helpful!

As billylee said, internet rumors are cheap but I, too have read some pretty sketchy things about Perito. Many seem to think he is a bit of a cowboy and there have been negative newspaper stories about him. Caution is recommended.
I am sixty-six years of age and dealing with gradually worsening ED for twenty years. At sixty-three I wanted something that worked reliably. I got an AMS 700 LGX implant in 6/25/13. I am entirely pleased with the outcome. My surgeon was Dr. Karpman.

There is no way I could have flown on day 2 or 3. Maybe today on day 4. I was shuffling yesterday and today walking better.

Yea. I had a 90 min car ride. I could not have flown the next day. After having the catheter in my bladder capacity was reduced for about 2 or 3 weeks. Felt like I needed to go about every hour. I was talking with my doctor at one of my post implant appointments and we were talking about who all I had considered to do my surgery before deciding on him. When I mentioned Perito to my Doctor he just kind of gave me a strange look. Kind of disapproving but he did not say anything. When I mentioned Eaid he had a much more positive response. I would venture to say that if my doctor had to have an implant put in himself that he would not choose Perito to do it.

My conclusions from reviewing Dr. Perito's info were mixed. He seems to have a streamlined approach, but the impression I got was he did it to do as many billable procedures a day as possible. Also, a google search uncovers legal issues, reflecting on his character. I found a great guy on the west coast and I've never looked back.

Ep,
Considering your commint about the pubic approach, I, too, thought that a great idea until someone injected another thought to me. That is, an incision above penis is through layers, possibly even muscle, which is fine, but could very well led to more soreness and slow healing where cutting scrotum is just a thin layer of skin to heal. Scrotum approach probably produces more swelling, but might heal faster...just a thought. There has got to be a reason why jso many surgeons still use scrotum approach, and I suggest with smaller incisions than a number a years ago. I am told Dr Morey does both so will leave approach and type of device up to him. I also believe each patient's scrotum/testicles could have bearing.

Ep, Billy Lee - my research showed far less recovery times using the infrapubic approach. See my post on the implants thread today: "up and at it in three weeks"
